"The Last of the Mohicans" ...the greatest movie ever
Some one posted a query about the greatest movie...at the time, I had
so many great films in my mind that I did not respond...couldn't choose.
But...Tonight I give you this...Daniel Day-Lewis as Hawkeye...Michael Mann film of the classic Nathaniel Hawthorne story...

A romance with action...a patriotic movie about America and what the
American spirit is about..love passion epic sweep, battles, this
film has it all. The cinematography is wonderful. The sub plot of the
the never spoken love between Hawkeye's brother and Madeleine Stowe's
little sister culminating in the duel on the rocky cliffs of Appalachia..
OH MY GOD...the score...haunting and unforgettable.

Please take the time to get the DVD and do yourself and your loved one's
a favor and see this movie.

Ok flick though.

No real point however.

2. You are 100% correct, msatty99.
It is in my top 3 of all time, and might be number one.

It is one of the greatest of all time. Have you been to www.mohicanpress.com?

That movie has everything and was done so well. I have the soundtrack, which is also one of the best ever.

I love you for your post. :)

6. Floogeldy, I have to know the other two of your top three
I just watched this again, after a long while...

My god. I feel...impassioned!

More feeling and guts and life in the last fifteen minutes
of this film than any other sequence of film I know.

4. One thing bothers me about the DVD...
It's been CUT! :grr:
It's missing several lines that demonstrated the rift between Hawkeye and Duncan. Also, they cut a song from the soundtrack that occurs when Hawkeye, Chingachgook and Uncas are trailing Magua and his captives toward the end of the movie.

I wasn't wild about the tune to begin with; but it pisses me off when they change something like that for the DVD version.

I enjoyed the movie story line; but I also liked Cooper's original story. BBC did a mini-series years ago which remained true to Cooper's tale; and I thought it was quite well done. I'd like to see a "Leatherstocking" series of movies made. Just because the hero doesn't get the girl doesn't mean the story isn't marketable.

5. Great movie...I agree with you there...
The last 10 minutes are riveting....and Wes Studi is a very underrated actor. Perfect as Magua in this film!

And I totally agree with you on the music....

I wish the DVD had the extras that are on VHS though. There was a great making of documentary that seems to be missing from the DVD

8. Magua is probably one of the greatest portrayals of villainy
every put on film. Wes Studi is so completely convincing.
This was great work. He totally embodies this character.

The character is so essential to the movie. In every nuance
and overt act...he is great. There are so many great performances
here that its hard to know who is most impressive. Daniel Day-Lewis,
of course, is so compelling as Hawkeye. For a Brit, he totally
captures my view of what MAKES america (the good stuff anyway).

Madeline Stowe...so beautiful and her ability to convincingly 'show'
the power of love as it overcomes her.

WOW

It had its moments, and it was a very good movie, but I wouldn't call it the best.
