K.D. Lang Gets Reintarnated

Canada's original cowpunk, K.D. Lang is revisiting her early country roots with a hits and rarities collection.

Reintarnation, which comes out April 25 on Rhino, features rare early singles from the hillbilly songstress as well as one unreleased track she wrote with longtime producer Ben Mink over 20 years ago, "Changed My Mind."

Glancing back at her more rambunctious days of Patsy Cline-loving and wedding dress sportin', Reintarnation includes Lang's first single, "Friday Dance Promenade," a song backed by her then band The Reclines. Lang independently released 500 copies of the single at concerts throughout 1983. Also on the album are two tracks from her first full-length album, 1984's A Truly Western Experience.

Those songs brought the Alberta singer enough recognition to get signed to Sire, with whom she released 1987's major label debut, Angel With A Lariat. Cuts from that record, as well as Shadowland and Absolute Torch And Twang — the album that won Lang her first Grammy award for Best Female Country Vocalist — are represented on the compilation.
