Cruise 'will eat baby's placenta'

Cruise stars in Mission Impossible III, due out in May
Actor Tom Cruise has said he plans to eat the placenta of his new baby.
"I thought that would be good," he told GQ magazine. "Very nutritious. I'm gonna eat the cord and the placenta right there."

It is the latest in a series of unusual revelations by the 43-year-old about the child he is expecting with his fiancee, actress Katie Holmes.

10. I saw one of those on TV here in Germany. They cooked the placenta
into a pate and served it up to the guests. The show was about "unusual" (gross even) happenings.

14. Here's Some Recipes:
"We were talking about this on another list recently--and some of the following were suggested:

1. Placenta sashimi. Chill on ice, slice very, very thin, eat with rice and nori (seaweed). Should be very restorative, but watch the wasabi--I think it's a blood thinner. So's ginger. So stick with a bit of soy!

2. The smoothie... another way to eat it raw.

3. Placenta Tartare. Using a scrupulously clean meat grinder, grind the placenta like hamburger, or alternatively, chop finely with a knife for 'best texture'. Mix with a bit of red wine, garlic (not too heavy on the garlic--it's another anticoagulant!) and seasonings to taste (suggestions include mustard, and/or curry, tabasco (light on this, as it might promote bleeding!, or even Italian cooking herbs, depending on what her taste is.) and serve with capers, chopped hard boiled eggs and some onion. Tartare is traditionally done with raw egg, but I'm not sure you could pay me to feed a new mom a raw, unpasturized egg! Serve with toast. Italian cooking herbs (basil, oregano, marjoram) have an oxytocic effect, which may be helpful. As another regional way of preparing includes olive oil and salt as an alternative to raw egg, the italian herbs with olive oil would blend very well.

Alternatively, if you want to cook it, you should be able to do just about anything you'd do with chunks of chicken or beef. Cook lightly, and at lower heat than you might normally use.

I have NOT tried these recipes!

8. Animals eat it. but it's mostly to obscure any scent
that might lead a predator to the nest/den...and it provides extra nutrition to the mother animal who probably won;t leave the nest to hun for a while..

Cruise is a weirdo of the nth degree..

I hope Katie figures out a way to escape..

12. K.O. had some Scientology expert on to explain the weirdness
By the time the man called it a "cult" I understood why it is one. Ew.

I'm really a live and let live person, but I have to ask: At what point is Katie going to snatch up her babe and run like hell away from this nut?

The placenta thing is the least of her worries, imo.

13. Yeah, right
I remember that back in 1972, it was David Carridine who was the media's chosen whacko. He played the part of a philosophical Shaolin monk in the TV show Kung Fu. And anyone who believes in a "weird" religion has got to be whacko, right?

Well, his girlfriend became pregnant, and sure enough, David Carridine was widely quoted as saying that he intended to chow down on the baby's placenta. Stack o' bibles an' all.

Perhaps the next report on Cruise will describe him inserting a duct-taped gerbil into his rectum (while running Ron's Special Operating Thetan Process R2-45 on double E-meters, no doubt) while urinating on an American flag and singing the Internationale.

Folks, Tom Cruise may be weird, he may be involved in a frightening cult, and he may be cruel and abusive to household furnishings, but should he be the receptacle of our many scandalous fantasies? I think not.

17. Frankly, I don't care what Tom Cruise eats or believes.
The _only_ thing about Tom Cruise that disturbs me is that he seeks to guide public health policy in the US and has publically declared war on psychiatry. In my estimation, that's no different that Jerry Falwell trying to influence public policy by declaring war on abortion. I don't want _anyone's_ religion guiding public health policy.

to read recipes for dishes containing HUMAN PLACENTA in the cooking forum a bit over a month ago. Why, oh why was I unlucky anough to see that? I don't even eat animal offal,( organ meats), I don't care who makes it or how it's prepared. The very idea of cooking nad eating the HUMAN flesh, no matter what someone tries to get me to believe is revolting...

34. Don't know what to believe. When interviewed by Diane Sawyer, he
repeated the placenta diet thing, but said it laughingly like the concept was ridiculous. Now, with this article, maybe he was telling the truth but in a way that you thought the opposite. Manipulation of the media by a celebrity once again.

36. The mere fact that something so
outrageous even came up indicates what an object of ridicule Cruise has become. I've been wondering for a while if this entire pregnancy isn't one giant phony publicity stunt and he and Holmes are actually quietly paying big bucks for a baby that will be trotted out as their own. The other night when Diane Sawyer asked him if Holmes' mother would be there for the birth, he stammered and looked mighty uncomfortable. Then yesterday I heard something about the baby possibly being born "at home." Holmes has been displaying that big 9 months pregnant belly for a bit too long already.
