60. Quick update before I head back to the hospital.

Dad was admitted by the ER doc. He had an EKG in the ER and then a CAT scan. That, and other physical tests (loss of strength on right side, can't touch his nose with his right hand) were indicative of a stroke.

He's in the hospital in our small town now. The doctor wants to do an MRI and some other tests today. We are going to let them do those tests today, but we are going to move him to a larger, better hospital in New Orleans later today. I may be unable to update again for a while if we move him to NOLA, because I'll certainly be in NOLA with my pop.

Dad is alert, giving the nurses fits as only he can--he jokes to hide his unease. His pastor came to visit him last night. He'll probably have visitors all day. He likes that.

I remember a thread that MrsGrumpy wrote a couple of months ago about her dad. Like her, I am a Daddy's girl--I love both my parents, but I've always been my father's shadow. Wherever he went when I was a child, I followed him. Together, he and I built the cabin that MMjr and I live in now. I just can't express to you guys how much this man means to me.

And I thank each and every single one of you for your nice responses in this thread. I wish I had the time to go through and thank you individually--but I'm going to grab a shower now and head back to the hospital so that I can be there when the doctor makes rounds.

If so then the strength will improve with a bit of therapy. Find out if it was a hypertensive stroke or if it was a clot...was his BP elevated upon admission? That will help determine what needs to be watched...his BP or blood clotting...hopefully they will do a carotid ultrasound ASAP.

Also be there when they give him food...sometimes even in the best hospitals the diet staff and floor staff don't talk enough especially when a patient is newly transferred...watch to make sure he can swallow without choking (speaking from experience here with my dad)
