Poll question: Dating Etiquette - Lisa Loeb #1 Single? |
|
Sorry so long folks:
Something I saw on TV has been bothering me for weeks. Lisa Loeb's show #1 Single horrified me the other day. I'm not a frequent viewer of this show that seeks to find her a match. I'm not even a fan of her music but certainly she was so rude on one of her dates and it is bothering me.
What do you think:
On a second date with a very nice guy in NYC, they decide to do some practical and go shopping for her apt. She selects nearly $300 worth of items for herself and at the register does not even make an attempt to pay for her own stuff. The guy (being a nice gentleman) offers to pay seeing that she is not going to.
She breaks it off with him on the very next date. Is this rude?
Thankfully I'm not in the dating scene now (have a nice relationship with a fellow DU'er) however; I will offer to pay for drinks/dinner as often as the guy will when dating. I certainly would not allow someone on the second date to pay for my household items just then to break it off with him.

4. I think she paid him back in the next episode, |
|
didn't she? I remember seeing them both at a table and she hands him a big wad of money. She mentioned that she didn't think it was appropriate that he spend that much on her at the Container Store.

I saw part of that one and did not realize that. That would make me feel so much better.

5. That's as tacky as a powder blue wedding tux or plastic cups |
|
at a wedding reception.
I cna't believe the guy paid for it! But then, I suppose if it was a chance to have Loeb, I'd spring for the $300...
but still, that's fucking ridiculous of her. Tacky, rude, and totally not in line with proper etiquette one iota.

7. Well, first of all, I don't even know who she is |
|
But second of all, "rude" doesn't even begin to describe what a sleazy act that is. Why anyone would want to date someone who did something like that (regardless of what they may look like - looks only last so long, folks) is beyond me.

10. Aha, so that's how she was able to be a "struggling" singer-songwriter... |
|
and still have a movie star (Ethan Hawke) for a neighbor. Although naming her band after a Salinger book should have been a tip off. Something about those trust fund kids and Salinger...
