Poll question: Best English Band - The Sixties (the first of far too many)
Edited on Mon Dec-08-03 03:37 PM by Screaming Lord Byron
I'm not including the Beatles and the Stones, for reasons of fairness. Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd will be in the Seventies Poll.
I considered Jimi Hendrix American, and yes, I forgot your personal favourites out of pure spite.

3. The Kinks....
That's my vote, but, there are so many others who were good-to-great from that decade. Procol Harum, The Pretty Things, The Downliners Sect, the Animals, Savoy Brown, Blodwyn Pig, Jethro Tull, The Creation, Traffic, Spencer Davis, The Action, etc.

5. If there was any more space or justice, The Animals and Spencer would fit.

6. That whole period was such a fertile time for great rock music.
So many febrile, inventive musicians came out of that milieu. Far too many dudes with freash approaches to their instruments....Waht Happened?! As Joe Carducci said, "The Brits simply can't drum for shit anymore."

16. I'm willing to bet
most people haven't heard the catalog of the Kinks and don't realize how diverse they are. Probably have only heard Lola, All the Day & You Really Got Me. I remember around the time Van Halen's version of that came out a lot of people had no idea it was a cover. The Kinks had kind of dropped out of the culture's consciousness. Also occurs to me that a lot of their great stuff was in the 70's also. That weird stuff like the Preservation Act combos.

4. I went with the Kinks
even though I suggested Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, who I think get overlooked often.
