Poll question: Best English Band - The Nineties |
|
Slimmer pickings here. I already know who'll win, if people aren't all voted out.

really are they? I know I saw them in 99, but aren't they really the major contenders for this decade we're in now?
I love Strummer, I'm not dissing you. The show I saw of him & the Mescaleros at Irving Plaza is on my top 5 of all time.

Good that you referenced the only song anyone here knows. :eyes:
Me: OMG, I love Underworld.
Normal Person: Who?
Me: Underworld...*big sigh*....Y'know, the song in "Trainspotting" that says "LAGER LAGER LAGER"?
NP: Ooooh yeah, I LOVE that song!
:(
I saw them last Oct. in Detroit, what I wouldn't give to see them in a *proper* setting ie. outdoors with about 40,000 people...

Seriously! Listen to Pink Flag, then Elastica's album, and answer my question...
Is it because Justine could kick Colin Newman's ass?

Some marketing men are at a meeting, 'Hey guys, have you heard this' -holds up Pink Flag - 'this rocks, but the band, man what a bunch of shaved monkeys' 'Why don't we get a bunch of hot chicks to remake the album' 'Bingo! That's dealt with the christmas bonuses then! Another line?'

The way most bands/dj's do when they sample someone. They actually got clearance to use the riffs in question.

I saw Catherine Wheel 4 times, and I'll admit that on their last tour, they didn't seem to have the same kind of energy that they had on the earlier ones. Same thing with their albums- their first few albums were fantastic, but the later ones, not so much.

20. I almost jumped right into this thread ... |
|
... to vote for The Who. Then I realized how old I've gotten. In fairness to myself, though, I did spend the nineties buying up every album Pete Townshend made on his own. I think he's a master poet; and so, as I slink out of the conversation, I'll just add his band and his music as a moot, soft vote.

The only band up there that acted like a fucking proper rock n roll band. At least they had the good sense to throw TVs out of windows and feel up female airline attendants. Who cares if they weren't all that original neither was Radiohead. Everything Radiohead did Can did 25 years before. Blur and The Verve are runnerups for me.

I had no idea they released anything after the mid-nineties. When I originally picked up Parallel Universe way back when, they were unknown to me, but I really liked that CD.
I'm definitely going to check out their other stuff now. :)

I actually bought thier album. They did "Drop Dead Gorgeous", right? Anyways I don't like Radiohead at all. I don't like that type of music. And I've listened to hard core bands that are deeper.

39. I don't think any British bands stood out in the 90s |
|
The 90s started quick, but stagnated quickly.
I can't think of a single, new Brtish band that particulary stands out in the 90s.
Spice Girls and bands like Wet, Wet, Wet dominated the British charts.
Need I say more?
