I'm leaning toward RV because I like Robin Williams and I don't know too much about the other movies. An American Haunting is a close second. What do you think? Tell me about your choice without spoilers of course.

1. Hoot

It was filmed not too far from here. The book was written by Carl Hiaasen. Has a nice pro-environment message to it.

3. I'd avoid RV and American Haunting.

I haven't actually seen those, but in my prophetic movie going opinion, they're stinkers.

Of those listed I've only seen Silent Hill.

Here's my review: it wasn't scary, way too much CGI, dialogue sucked (on purpose, but still bad), other than that it was OK. If you like movies that don't make a lot of sense.

7. An American Haunting was good

It has an important "awareness" type thing at the end. It's pretty scary. Check it out on matinee.

4. I am very interested in "American Haunting" because I grew up

near the location of the events. Read a book about it when I was in jr high and it scared the bejeebers out of me. The Bell Witch Legend has been the stuff of campfire tales and ghost story anthologies for nearly 200 years.

6. I went to see An American Haunting

It was probably a different interpretation than the ones that you read about. It was a good flick. Plenty scary with a twist at the end. Check it out during the day when you will get a better price and will not be as likely to view it with a bunch of adolescent girls. Screams and then talking about the scary scene while important parts of the movie are going after the scary scene. That sucked.

5. Inside Man, hands down!!

This was a great, classy movie with classy actors doing their thing and great editing and directing.

SEE THIS MOVIE!! Whatever else you do. It is terrific. Great cast, great direction and very intelligent screenplay. You WANT to see this movie!

8. I've been meaning to see Inside Man, Spike Lee's latest.

I understand it's solid, exciting entertainment with a well-written script and, of course, a dynamite cast.

Akeelah and the Bee intrigues me and is something I would support seeing on principle. Besides, I haven't seen Angela Bassett in anything lately.

A fair number of people on DU have bashed United 93 before seeing it, but I don't belong to that camp. Having seen director Paul Greengrass's Bloody Sunday (shot more or less in Dogma 95 style), I can respect his work. The problem is that I think the film is going to be particularly traumatic for me, for a variety of reasons. I still might see it, though.

I can't think of a single reason to see Mission: Impossible III. I didn't like the TV series, and Tom Cruise gives me the galloping creepies.

9. I went to the theater after not getting any responses to this

in about a half hour after I posted it. I saw An American Haunting. It's worth a view at the matinee for sure. It's not one of those movies that I'll buy on DVD, but it was worth the price of admission. I might go check out another movie from the list tomorrow. I might consider Inside Man. I'm going to see if I can find a trailer for it on the net.

10. I will see Angela Basset in anything!

Also the movie sounds very uplifting and it did get great reviews. My granddaughters are going to see it.

OK, I am considering the haunting movie, but only if someone tells me my intelligence will not be insulted and I will not feel I have wasted 90 minutes of my life on trash.

I've heard such great things about the 9/11 movie that I am reconsidering my initial impulse not to see it. "Friends with Money" is another on my list because of the cast (except for J.Anniston).

Frankly, for movies to interest me nowadays they have to be intelligent, with good, solid performances, and a great script. I loved "Capote" for that reason and also "Inside Man."

12. You don't need a PhD to get An American Haunting

but I think it's good, solid entertainment. Catch it at the matinee.

16. I didn't mean to sound stuffy. Sorry.

It's just that I feel so unfulfilled after so many movies, so I pick them very carefully. I LOVE really good movies. I love going into a movie theatre and having popcorn and a soda and really getting into a movie. It is one of my greatest pleasures. But I can't stand intellectual dishonesty and bad acting when there are such good stuff out there. So I look for the good stuff vigorously.

17. Well, I'm not the best reviewer

so you may want to get another opinion or read what the professional critics are saying about the movie. But it kept me on the edge of my seat throught the movie. Like I was saying it isn't going to win any Oscars, but I think it's worth $6 at the matinee.

19. It's been harder the last few years, for some reason.

I love going to the movies and have many happy memories of seeing films (recent and vintage) at the student union in college. During the '90s I spent a lot of time seeing free previews, independent films, mainstream fare, and so forth. I remember getting in lines that ran around the block for things like The English Patient and Apollo 13.

For the last few years, though, it's been harder for me to regard most of what I see as anything better than average. Some of it has been downright disappointing.

Films like Junebug, Nine Lives, and Brokeback Mountain made me hope the tide is turning.

13. Inside Man is really good.

I really want to see Silent Hill, though it's definitely not something everyone would enjoy.

15. Seen a few

M:I:3, Scary Movie 4, The Sentinel...I'm planning on seeing Silent Hill and Stick It.

Of the ones I've seen I liked The Sentinel the best. M:I:3 was...blah..not as good as the other M:I's. Scary Movie 4 had funny points but I missed a bunch of the jokes because I hadn't seen all the referenced movies.

The Sentinel though I thought was a decent film, with a couple of glaring flaws (ie Michal Douglas's romantic interest) but otherwise was ok.

politically oriented subject matter to boot.

20. I Just Saw American Haunting Tonight

It was corny, but we were debating on that one or Silent Hill. We just wanted to see something scary. I know it was supposedly a true story and all, but how many times can you watch a girl twitch in a bed!
