Does your dog use you as his/her interpreter?
It's driving me NUTS!!!

My dog comes and whines to ME whenever she wants something, even though she knows that it's my son's responsibility to tend to her needs! She comes up to me and whines, and then watches with an expectant face as I relay the message to her *actual* (hah!) owner, and as soon as she hears confirmation that the message has been received, she runs to him.

I swear I'm a tool. And I thought it was bad being owned by a cat!!

1. My dogs are trying to teach me to "follow."
They have a command, where they're supposed to follow me. They're so cute. They come up to me, bounce up and down a little, and walk a little and then look over their shoulders. It's so strange.

9. They're evil geniuses.
I think we we're all very lucky that little dogs are so tiny. :) Otherwise, world domination. :)

5. Well our Sheltie Jessie is trying to get me to learn "cat" so I can get
Merlin the heck out of her bed. I swear...she'll put her paw on my foot, look up at me, and then run over and put her paw on the cat while he's sleeping in the bed.

6. My mother was the German Shepherd's interpreter.
My mother & sister could not control her for anything, however when the dog was upset/sad/whatever, she would go to them. My dad & I were the ones that actually were in control of the dog, but she rarely went to us for emotional needs. She just knew how to work my mother, but since she was so dominant over her, she wouldn't listen to her.

Those who own German Shepherds know that they are extremely expressive children. If you own a lab or something, you'll never truly "get it", even if you claim your dog is expressive.

11. you are so right
lol

Our German Shepherd (part Chow) does this little half whine, half bark thing when she is trying to get something, or just get our attention, or when she hears people outside- I swear it sounds like she is trying to talk like people. That's just one example. You can always tell what mood she is in when she looks at you.
She's the most expressive dog I have ever been around.

13. My last job involved working with 5 German Shepherds in one house.
I was a personal assistant and she had 5 grown not-fixed German Shepherds. Talk about dealing with a bunch of crybabies. Each one had totally different ways of expressing themselves, but you can tell exactly what each one wanted/felt. You could totally hold a conversation with them.

Half the time I was just hanging out in the house alone with the dogs watching tv. I'm watching the episode of "The L Word" where Dana dies. It was seriously the most pathetic thing ever. Everyone on the tv is crying, I'm crying, the two dogs on the couch with me are crying.

14. That's too funny!
Are all German Shepherds such crybabies? Because my little girl sure is, too! I thought it was just because she was spoiled... :D

15. They all seem to be crybabies.
Edited on Mon May-08-06 05:30 PM by haruka3_2000
Our vet has three German Shepherds (and also holds the high honor of being the only vet our dog didn't regard as a food item). She says her dogs are all big crybabies.

My Shepherd was pretty neurotic. After she fell down the stairs, she was scared to go up or down a flight of stairs unless you said, "It's okay. You can do it." Then she would do it no problem. However, until you said that, she'd just pace and cry.

We had a Shepherd Pit mix that wasn't too whiny though. She was also only protective, not aggressive. Overall, a less neurotic dog.

12. There was a recent study and dog owners correctly identified
6 different vocalizations from a recording. The dogs recorded were responding to things like: strange noise outside, just excited, separated, etc.

We ARE learning their language.
