LOL! :hi:

It's a little tender, but I was able to get back on and do another 17.5 miles tonight.

7. What kind did you end up buying?
I use to love to enter century (100 mi.) rides, but I have not done one in a few years. Might be time to get out of the pool and back on my bike again now that I am all inspired by Lance (and prolesunited of course!).

11. I bought
A Trek 7300 hybrid. Here's the specs
http://www.trekbikes.com/bikes/2003/citybike/7300.jsp

And a picture of my bike

I'm thinking of doing a century ride in September, but I'm not sure if I'm ready. How hard is it? They have a 67 mile option and I may just play it safe and try that.

Why give up swimming? You could be a bi-athlete.

15. I use to do triathlons
but I really suck at running. I wish they had races with just swimming and biking, but most biathlons are biking and running. Centuries are not bad if you don't try to go too fast and drink plenty of liquids. If you can do 52 mi (or 67 mi), you can do 100 mi without much problem (except for a sore butt :-) ).

25. Well, I'm impressed
I suck at both running and swimming. Do they have anything that combines biking and blading?

I'll see how it goes this month. The ride isn't until September and you don't have to specify which distance on the registration form, which is due in a couple of weeks.

16. I cruised along Chicago's lakefront trail
Here's some pictures I took.

The path is paved along the entire route. I had to do the whole trail almost twice to make my miles

Ther's boats on the lake on one side

And amazing architecture on the other

What can beat this view?

23. I took my time
Chicago's lakefront path is very scenic so there is plenty to look at along the way. You're also sharing the path with bladers, joggers, walkers, tourists, etc. No telling when someone is going to get in your path, so there's only a few sections where you can really get going.

My top speed, though was 23.4 mph, which was pretty good considering the wind.

I also stopped at Navy Pier and had lunch - egg rolls and vegetable fried rice. I stumbled across a Beatles tribute band as well and they were actually pretty good.

26. I rode along Chicago's lakefront
and it was quite overcast and VERY windy. It was nice because I didn't get too hot and the threatening weather kept the crowds down. On a beautiful sunny day, it gets so crowded in some spots that you practically walk your bike.

This is my first "real" bike and rather than flying somewhere on vacation, I decided to buy a bike. I never realized what a difference a good bike makes. I'm very happy. Good luck on your job search.

13. I'm not sure what you school's policies are
but I advocate social change through non-violent means. MLK and Ghandi are much more worthy of support, IMHO.

What would be your purpose in displaying this button?

I will probably get a peace button instead but proles I want peace of course through peaceful means but I really dont object to the IRA much sure I hate some of what they do but if you hit the dog for too long he will bit back.
I really like this more. I want peace proles I really do but to be honest I have a little bit of sympathy for them.
I am sorry I really am but although I hate their violent ways I can see where they are coming from nationalists have tried peaceful means for years.

19. I do understand the dynamics

at play there and know that human nature has a tendency to run its course. Fortunately, I've never been in that situation so I don't know how I would react. I think the situation there is similar to that in Israel and Palestine.

Both sides have been grieviously wronged and have sound reasons for reacting the way that they have. However, both sides are wrong. You cannont achieve peace through violence.

At some point, I am hoping that our collective consciousness can evolve to the point that we can transcend human nature and appeal to our higher selves to find true justice and compassion.

Here's some of quotations that I have found inspirational.

"I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent."
-- Mohandas K. Gandhi

"There is no way to peace. Peace is the way."
-- A.J. Muste.

"This is the way of peace: Overcome evil with good, falsehood with truth, and hatred with love."
-- Peace Pilgrim.

"The nonviolent approach does not immediately change the heart of the oppressor. It first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it. It gives them new self-respect; it calls up resources of strength and courage that they did not know they had. Finally it reaches the opponent and so stirs his conscience that reconciliation becomes a reality."
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.

"We frail humans are at one time capable of the greatest good and, at the same time, capable of the greatest evil. Change will only come about when each of us takes up the daily struggle ourselves to be more forgiving, compassionate, loving, and above all joyful in the knowledge that, by some miracle of grace, we can change as those around us can change too.
-- Maíread Maguire

14. How long did it take you?
I went up the road to the next town over the weekend on my old Fuji. That was a litle over 15 miles. Not bad for a 285#, 46 yr-old diabetic...15 mph headwind, too...

There's a Century next month locally, with a metric option, 1/2 Century, 30 miler and 10 miler. I'm considering either the 30 or the 1/2 Century.

Just finished the log for tonight's short ride. 8 miles in 40 minutes, top heart rate was 176. (yeah, I did some intervals)

And that's a NICE looking bike!

This is the one I'm looking at doing:

Lakeshore Century along Indiana's Lake Michigan shoreline on Sept. 7

Do you have a link or more details on yours? You're in Fort Wayne, right?

I actually prefer people like Cooper and Devlin who tried to get freedom through peace actually. I admire them more but I do have a tad bit of sympathy for the IRA thats a tad I dont love em but i see their cause being more justifed than the knights of orange or whatever they are called. Thank you again for being kind and responding to me I really appreciate it. I dont feel so embarassed no more/
