How the hell did I miss this film in sex ed? |
|
Probably because I slept through the class. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/periods101.html(if you are offended by material about menstrual cycles you probably shouldn't click on the link)

I remember sex ed in 6th grade (it was called "Hygiene" in those days, early '60s) -- it consisted of sending the boys and the girls to separate classrooms, then we girls saw a filmstrip about Kotex. It was pretty incomprehensible, even lamer than the video. We weren't at all sure what they were talking about. I never did find out what the boys did.

|
This film is not designed to tell the audience about their bodies, but rather it is designed to prevent the audience members from bleeding all over the place and clogging toilets when that "magic moment of becoming a woman" arrives.

|
Back in the '60s, the only sex ed class I had was in 6th grade, all ksds had to have permission, girls in one classroom, boys in another. NAd the film was some wacky lady egg meeting some equally wacky Mr. Sperm, and they got married.
Left me totally confused.

31. Hey there, my dear xmas74....... |
|
Well, allow me to be the voice of dissent here....
I think that the film accomplishes what it sets out to do....which is to de-mystify the female period....And how to handle it.
The little girl isn't retarded......the film just is going slowly and repetitively to make sure the message gets across.
It is a very practical and straight-forward sort of film.
I never saw this one before. But I am much older than you, and I had my sex education back in the late 1950's......
We saw an animation about the menstrual cycle, IIRC....

instead of just saying you will have one and that's that. It's just an air of accept it but you don't need to worry about why it's happening.
And the little girl-there is something about the features of her face that reminds me of a girl I work with.

42. I see what you're saying...... |
|
And you just might have a point there....
But I do remember seeing how we were told that the egg passes from the body when it isn't fertilized.....
And I wondered why or how it would do that, and how would it get fertilized.....THOSE questions weren't answered.
So I asked my mom...and she told me.
I suspect they were trying to not overload those fifth-graders with too much information.....
But to just give them enough to get through the routine daily stuff.....
The other questions can be answered as the girl thinks of them, as she is ready to hear the answers.
I do agree that the little girl looks odd...

We needed to practice wearing a pad??
We had the diagram thing (with the boys out of the class) in 5th grade and everyone got to take home a "special package". a Period kit! With 3 pads and a booklet. Wow! We were excited! I remember the "mark it on your calendar" talk. I have never done that. I prefer to be "surprised". :hi:
