That "Sweet Sixteen" show on MTV is the worst program on TV
It's not a damned birthday party, it's a dick measuring contest for rich assholes. Inviting those "privileged" enough to know their pathetic offspring; glorifying everything a parent should discourage...classism, arrogance, elitism etc; giving the spoiled little complainers their gifts of cars, vacations, businesses, ponies or whatever in front of the other kids like it's some Fourth of July Parade thereby contributing to the little fuckers' already blossoming and unearned sense of entitlement. It's downright infuriating. And what's most tiresome is the fact that the show revolves around the celebration of a non-achievement...he/she turned 16. Big fucking deal. I turned 16 once too and so does almost everyone else. I guess it was a lesser achievement for the rest of us, however because our parents didn't own an island somewhere.

There is no way in Hades that I would let my child attend one of those parties. No son or daughter or mine will be INVITED to oogle at some pretentious prick's kid's new BMW. I don't care if Eric fuckin' Clapton is playing at it.

My advice to one of these parents would be this...try teaching your child to appreciate what they have instead of assisting them in flaunting it otherwise they'll turn out just like you. And you are a piece of shit.

Sorry, rant off. I shouldn't watch that channel. It's all garbage.

1. I watched about five minutes of it the other day and almost puked.
I witnessed the presenting of the BMW to the little rich kid and that was enough.

How in the hell does this shit get on television? Who is the f#cking genius that came up with this show? He/she should be shot.

3. It's freightening for sure.
I just don't get it. I never would have wanted to go to something like that as a kid. Nor would I have wanted people to watch me receive gifts from my parents, no matter how modest. But these other kids line up like it's a treat to breathe the same air as the birthday girl. I don't get it.

5. I gave up on MTV
about 10yrs ago...when Real World/Road Rules turned into the Dominant shows on the channel..at first, both programs, I thought were okay, they used pretty much "real" people, but now, all they have on those shows, are rich, upper crust, cry babies...oh, and since MTV stopped playing music, I 86'ed them from my viewing habits....

6. Most. Disgusting. Show. Ever.
MTV is now the "Pretty White Princess" channel. Yeah, let's cater to the needs of a bunch of fucking spoiled assembly line cheerbitches. What the fuck purpose do ANY of these rich-bitch shows serve? Wow, your old man got lucky breaks in life. That's something to be lauded? How many people work their asses off and for whatever reason it just doesn't happen for them? Those people deserve a TV show, not a bunch of non-appreciative ("but you said I'd have a BAND at my party . . . sob . . ") little Orange County shitasses who will never experience suffering in their lives.

7. Tiara Girls is the newest show ...
I admit I did watch Laguna Beach , and I got sucked in 8th and Ocean . But I don't feel jealous of these girls at all because I know when they go into the real world , they won't be able to cope ... one day they are going just have mental breakdowns when they don't realize that money does'nt buy you everything . Oh wait , they won't ever learn . I saw the episode where LA Reid's son was having his party in NYC and he said that he is the " heir " to his daddy's record company - lazy bastard , you did'nt work for ANYTHING . I am not jealous of these people at all .

26. Saddest thing: Those kids think that party means something.
They lord over other kids - treating them like garbage. The show is slanted towards making the kids look bratty, but glorifies their behavior. I feel sick watching those kids treat others like garbage. It's really sad that those kids take so much pleasure in such vile behavior. And it's sad that the (mostly) girls take so much of their self-worth from their things and a stupid party.

8. I think for my 16th birthday, my parents let me invite friends over for
pizza and soda.

There were a few "ladies' luncheon" Sweet Sixteens for a few of my friends (the ones with traditional North Shore Jewish parents), but those weren't so much a show of status as they were boring as hell.

10. When I watch that show....
...I'm not sure who I want to strangle more - the kid (for being an ungrateful twerp) or the parents (for caving in to the kid's every whim). The crass materialism is one thing, but the sense of entitlement in the kids is what makes the show truly alarming. The presence of TV cameras filming everything doesn't help - no parent is going to say no to their kid on national TV.

Once, just once, I would like to see the kid have to put in some time volunteering at a homeless shelter or something like that, as a precondition for having the lavish party. Maybe it has happened, but any footage was left on the cutting room floor. That's probably asking too much.

11. It reminds me of a Cosby Show episode
These kids are always bragging about how rich they are and how only the most popular kids will be at their party. It reminds me of the Cosby episode where Vanessa complains to her parents that the popular kids don't like her because she's so rich. Cliff finally responds, "You keep saying you're rich. Your mother and I are rich. YOU HAVE NOTHING!"

And how desperate must you be to audition for a chance to shake it for a bunch of pathetic teenagers? Porn is dignified in comparison.

23. Actually it is a wonderful show to watch with your teenagers
I watch it with my 17 and 18 yo all the time. We just love it. Well I love it. It gives me an opportunity to tell the kids about how diamonds are mined and how that BMW could feed a village of starving people. And about how shallow those people are. It used to bug the kids about my commentary but now they yell back at the TV too. They both know kids at their school who are like the ones on the show and they actually feel sorry for them. Wealth is never measured in money.

and SHE is very socially concious. She does not have to work but chooses to and works in early childhood. I have nothing but admiration and respect for her.

If you saw her on the street you would not know she is wealthy.

...and the girl was with her grandparents. They were going to buy her a new car, so they went to the Audi dealership and the girl had a breakdown and a tantrum because her grandmother had the audacity to suggest that she get a slightly used car. When I say slightly used I mean less than 1000 miles on it. I couldn't believe it. Another one was the girl was all upset that her mother and father wouldn't buy her a Range Rover, and was going to get a BMW I believe instead. These girls need their asses kicked in a bad way.

31. For my 16th birthday
My boyfriend and my best friend plotted with my parents to fill my room up to the ceiling with shredded newspaper and balloons. They "surprised" me with this when I came home from school, and after we all got finished laughing hysterically we had a little cake and a few presents. To this day, many years later (don't want to say just HOW many, mind you) it remains one of my favorite birthday memories. I knew people loved me and thought about me enough to think of something that would make me laugh on my birthday.

I look at the kids on that show and feel sorry for them, in a way. All they have is money. They don't have real friends, and their parents buy their love with meaningless, costly THINGS. Nobody will ever fill their room with balloons and newspaper just for a laugh. And their friends only like them because they throw huge parties and because they're rich.

32. Think the competition on Super Sweet 16 is bad
JUST imagine if they did a show Oy vey it's my bar/bat mitzvah!!! I am surprised no TV network has sunk so low.

A few months ago there was a story in the New York papers about a defense contractor who spent a fortune on his 13 YEAR OLD daughter's bat mitzvah party...each kid received a gift bag that included an iPod video and a digital camera.

As a Jew this kind of thing makes me sick because a bar/bat mitzvah is not about who can have the biggest party, but it's supposed to be a religious rite of passage.

34. Everything MTV shows is morally repulsive
It sickens me how anyone can watch this shit. It was played a significant role in the moral decay of society. They certainly played a role in creating the Bush America by turning the youth today into a bunch of brain- dead, materialistic, shallow, clueless, self-absorbed, greedy, violent, misogynistic, culturally void whores!!!

Does that description rign a bell about another certain group? The Reaganites of the 80's? It has come full circle again. Greed & excess has become fashionable again.

38. American culture..
.. is becoming a cesspool. Not in the way it was when I was growing up, where parents worried about rebellious rock and roll and other benign nonsense.

Now we have American Idol, where the object of the first several episodes is to make fun of delusional people. I don't find it funny, I find it sad. Sad for the people auditioning, sad for anyone who enjoys watching them get trashed by a lightweight like Simon.

And shows like this, and countless others like it (MTV is among the worst), where everything you are comes down to your bank account.

I must be getting old :)
