I'm FINALLY down to one meal a day, I don't suffer and I'm actually losing
the last bit of weight I want to.

I wait for a breakfast snack until after the gym so that I burn off the calories from the day/night before.. that's made a big difference. Breakfast is now yogurt, not usually the sugary kind, but sometimes. Usually with a lot of fiber/granola mixed in. Sometimes I have 2.

I try to have my main meal in the middle of the day, early afternoon. BIG salad loaded with good stuff, a tomato, avocado, grated cheese, sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts, olive oil. A nice leafy lettuce. I usually pair it up with a burger patty or small steak, or often a ham and cheese and mayo sammich on a baguette or fresh bread. Juice, water, cola.. If I have the meal in the evening, it's often pasta with a salad as well, but could be a roasted chicken, pork chops, etc, always paired with a big salad.

And I drink a couple of liters of water per day. It's never enough, is it?

Sometimes dinner is a bowl of cereal, or another yogurt, a salad or toast with cheese as a snack, nothing huge... but it's working. I FINALLY noticed the back-of-the-arm fat is leaving!!!! YES!

This diet modification along with working out 4 days a week... is finally paying off. I look really really good for being almost 46.

SO ALL YOU 30 year old women PAY ATTENTION:

Your metabolism begins dropping at about 5% a year once you hit 30 and surprise, the weight starts creeping on, right?

Start working out and keeping your metabolism UP while you're young and you won't have such a battle to fight later.

Eating 3 meals a day is not necessary... it's just another state of mind.

2. You are eating
more than once a day and that food IS necessary for you to survive. They might not be 'meals' as such but you ARE providing nutrition to your body.
I don't think 3 meals a day means 3 course dinners everytime you sit down.

Congrats on the weightloss and healthier lifestyle!
You're doing something right :)

:hi:

3. Ahhh but those were the days when I *COULD* eat 3 meals a day, whole
meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner WITH snacks and I was still a size 6.

I LOVED breakfast! Eggs, toast, potatoes, bacon, coffee, YEAH!

Nice burger and fries and a coke for lunch, mexican food for dinner...

See, I LOVE food. I really LOVE it. but... eating too much makes me fat.

So one main meal a day seems to be the ticket. Now I REALLY gotta make it count!

5. I used to be able to get away with that kind of eating
but when I got Diabetes II, I couldn't do it anymore. Now I have to keep my blood glucose level as much as possible, and that means grazing all day. I just turned 50, and have noticed some weight lost comes back in the belly area.

I suppose if I cut out the brownies, cookies and chocolate for those grazing "snacks" and substituted something a little more sensible, it would help, though. :)

I put back the 25 lbs I lost when I went to insulin, which sucked. I argue with my doctors on an ongoing basis that if they want us to lose weight that they shouldn't be putting us on medications that do exactly that--put the weight back on us. It's an ongoing battle, though, and it's a sharp incline uphill all the way.

7. It is strange that now that I am in my 60s, I can eat 3 meals a day
and not gain weight. In my younger years, I would have to starve myself to keep weight off. But I guess in my older years, my metabolism has stabilized. But of course, 10 years ago I became a vegetarian, so I'm sure that helps.

8. I am over 30 (darn near 40). I eat six times a day. I exercise daily.
My metabolism is speeding along at a rate faster than ten years ago.

I eat three meals and three snacks a day, giving my metabolism something to work on constantly, which keeps it humming along nicely. Not eating often enough can actually interfere with the efficiency of the metabolism. I lost the last of my pregnancy/breastfeeing weight two years ago and have maintained my weight and lean muscles mass this way ever since.
