Worst cover of a song ever?
I have never heard a radio DJ apologize for the song he just played before. Let alone apologize, talk about how much he thinks it sucks and promise not to play it again.

Korn's live cover of Metallica's One was definitely that bad though. :scared: My previous nominee for cover suckitude, Faith Hill's cover of Peice of My Heart, deserves a fucking Grammy by comparison. :puke:

So what's the worst cover you've ever heard?

It's hardly an attempt to cover it musically. He talks on all of his songs. I kind of liked it.

5. I forgot all about
Korn's One Cover. . . . ugh . . . then again if I'm thinking of the same night there was quite a few bad covers that night. . .

But if we are going to count live covers.. Papa Roach's live cover of Aerosmith's Sweet Emotion was even worse.

23. Okay, I think we've established a rule here.
Don't cover one of a superior performer or band's best songs. It's just a bad idea. The only way to really do a good job with a cover is to take a song that was a bit underutilized and really make it your own (ie Johnny Cash doing NIN's Hurt.)

I -like- the version with the girls off the street, although I think Paul was probably trying to piss all over John's song. But bringing Yoko into the studio was an act of war anyway.

edit: (I said Tori Amos originally--but was it Fiona Apple? Did both of them do the song? Who knows.)

Metallica cover songs...Snoop Doggs rendition of Sad But True, was abysmal, and I believe, it was so bad, that after a minute of Snoop butchering the song, they cut to commercial. I have heard Korns cover of One, but not a live version...the version I heard was done in studio, and it sounded good to me, not as good as the original, but it wasn't bad...:)

Debacle of mass proportions.

Others -

Korn's cover of One. Kids, play within your talent range. That is, making mookcore for frat boys.
Pat Boone's In A Metal Mood. The whole album.
Mean Gene Okerlund. Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo. Hell. No.
Blue Swede - Hooked on a Feeling. As much as I like that song, the Oogah-Chakah chorus is about the goddamned DUMBEST idea ever to make it to a #1 song.
Mariah Carey - Without You. Damn it, leave Nilsson alone!
Duran Duran - Thank You. The whole album.
Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You. Without question the most annoying and caterwauling song ever recorded. In the words of Ford Fairlaine - "I've heard cats fuck with more harmony!"

in the mid-90s (or thereabouts). I don't remember the artist, but it was worse than bad - it was so lifeless it was sterile.

As far as Faith Hill's cover of Piece of my Heart goes, the biggest problem there was that is was so jarringly different that anyone who loved the original automatically hated her version.
