Common things you've never done

I just realized today that in about 30 years of driving, I've never been stopped for speeding.

Other common things I've never done -

I've never been to Hawaii.
I've never had a manicure.
I've never been out on a boat in the ocean.
I've never ridden in a limo.

5. I don't know - they seem common to me

Everyone I know has been stopped for speeding, I think. All the women I know get manicures (I can't see it - how the hell can you run a chainsaw with those damn nails in the way?).

When I say, I've never been out on the ocean, or to Hawaii or in a limo, people gasp and say, "You're kidding?!" one of my least favorite remarks. Why would I kid about it? Yeah, I'm going to lie to you about riding in a frigging limor just to toy with you and lead you on for my own evil purposes.... bwahahahahahahahaha..........

12. Well, I've ridden in limos a few times

because I used to know a chauffeur, and he gave me deals. But I still wouldn't consider it "common," even though it seems de rigueur today for proms and stuff.

And I had my nails done once. I knew a manicurist ("nail technician," she called herself) and she offered, so it was what-the-hell.

But, Hawaii? I know people who've been, sure. But I know a helluva lot more who haven't. Same with being out on the ocean.

I think tagging stuff we haven't done as "common" serves to diminish us for not having done them. I mean, how freaking absurd is it to say, "You've never been to Hawaii? OMG!"

But I suppose you're right - those were off the top of my head and I DO live in Los Gatos which is a wierd place and not very common in and of itself. Besides, my life has been so bizarre that it's tough for me to decide what's common and what isn't.
