1. That's all George Martin, baby!
And sped up too--he couldn't play it at speed.

2. Get thee to the bookstore...

...and leaf through a copy of this book to see if you can find what you're after. It's likely to be in there. It was a spendy purchase ($79 - might be cheaper on Amazon), but I'm really glad to have it around.

Even if it doesn't have that part, would definitely be worth having! Looks like a lot of music fun :D

Thanks! :hi:

8. Chords
Edited on Fri May-12-06 06:39 AM by Squeech
A - E - F#m - A7 - D - Dm - A - - -

and repeat. Once you have those chords, you ought to be able to puzzle out the arpeggio or figure that the piano is playing over each chord.

And for the bridge part of the song (I know I'll never lose affection etc):

F#m - - - B - - - Dm - - - A - - -

and repeat. Hope this helps.

BTW, all a songwriter has to do to get typecast as Beatlesque is to use the IV minor chord, as this song does-- the D minor in the otherwise major key of A gives the song its particular poignancy. Jeff Lynne especially uses that trick frequently. It's too early in the day for me to think of other examples, but I'm sure they're out there.

On edit: thinking about it further, I realize I got it half right. The D chord is major for half the measure, minor for half the measure, as you can clearly hear in the piano figure. Sorry about that-- this is typical of my pre-caffeine mental condition.
