Who's really undercutting the military
My fave conservative idiot, Chadwick said on his new website today, The Steel Cage (which is pretty much the same as the old site):

After Ronald Reagan worked so hard to build and strengthen the military past even that of Harry Truman, President Clinton decided we did not need to be as strong as we were. Why? The official line on gutting military posts and basically firing thousands of troops was that the Soviet Union had fallen and there was no reason to have such a massive power to defend the nation. I think the real reasons were that Bill Clinton loathed the military and he was appeasing the far left nations of the UN.

Ummm, I think it's probably worse to send thousands of troops to die in the desert so someone's bloodlust could be quenched and their buddies (Halliburton) be made richer.

Or maybe stage an elaborate photo-op with a fake turkey and handpicked soldiers who support you. Talk about disrespect.

I dunno, what do you all think?

1. What about G.H.W. Bush? Didn't he have something to do with

all this? Didn't he started defunding the military?

And, BTW, the records doesn't show that Clinton cut the military and after all, they did pretty well in first the Afghan campaign and then the Iraq invasion.

Edit: Typos

2. What do I think?
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 04:00 PM by Bozola
I think that spending more than $50 billion a year on the great resource blackhole known as the military is f*cking insane, and I think anyone who thinks that any president after FDR has u the military is f*cking insane.

Paradoxically, you want to what HAS weakened the US Military? Too fucking much money, that's what. Too f*cking much money spawns bureaucracy, corruption, and inefficiency.

$400 billion a year and the infantry can't even get decent flak jackets.

speaking of him, he didn't like my article and to prove that he's smarter than I am he linked to my site twice in the same sentence, while I never linked to him...

He also removed his responce to me for some reason, dunno why, I never showed him mine...

4. Yes, GHWB did start the trend
of cutting back military. What the current admin won't tell you is that GWB increased funding for military in his first budget by less than 5%! The largest single expenditure in that increase was for officer housing. Gonna SAVE the military by making sure the top brass are comfy.

5. Gutting the military, eh?
This kid makes me sick. I remember you linked to his site once when he had a story about crawling under a tank to watch GW give a speech. He claims that he was standing at the wings of the stage and heard it all, but unfortunately his camera broke whilst crawling. Hmmm.... Sounds like a complete lie to me. If a little punk could get that close to the president, then why can't a group of skilled terrorists take him out? LIAR.

About the military...
I grew up in a military household during the Clinton years, and from my position it was that there was so much peace and potential prosperity over the horizon that kids had no reason to enter the service. Technological breakthroughs were making a huge standing army an obsolescent concept. If recruitment is down, you don't need as much money, i.e. unmanned aircraft are (in the end) cheaper than a group of American teenagers. I think this kid should stop repeating the rhetoric he's heard during his short life and analyze the situation. (Sorry about the length, but this kid is hilarious.)

6. shelling out money and not asking for results
how much of our defense budget goes to private companies to develp new weapons or defense systems and the like? Tons. Problem is we don't cut them off after they don't produce. OR, we do something even dumber and buy the stuff before it even proves itself in actual tests and install it (I believe this is what Rumsfeld did with the new missile defense system in the last two years. If he didn't install it on ships and at bases I knw he was planning on it saying that "we would work the bugs out of it once we got it here" or something like that) even though we don't even know if it works.

Then there's the military machine itself. It has come a long way but still has a way to go. DOn't want too many boat rockers or thinkers for crying out loud all they do is cause headaches and problems

7. By the way, it realy irks me
that the ignorant right seems to believe they are all mindreaders when it comes to Democrats. Their arguments are based not on facts, but on figments of someone's imagination. They're gonna tell us what he was thinkin'. Let us 'cipher it for y'all. I'll tell ya what he's REALLY sayin'. Rush Limburger started this and it's like a disease.

8. whoa whoa whoa
1. Giving recruiters more power. There is plenty of law in place to ensure that recruiters get their message out to the young people of America, but I don’t think it’s enough. Recruiters need more money and more rights in order to get high quality men and women into boots, or shoes if you are in the Navy.

More power? Like what? They can come into my house in the middle of the night and take me into the military?

4. Advanced Weapons Research. Pour more money into that! Believe it or not, communism is still as big a threat as terrorism. China and North Korea have missiles pointed right at us, and if you don’t believe that you are living in a fantasy world where everybody holds hands, sings songs, and wears tye-dye and sandals. If we don’t stay ahead of the game in the weapons department, we could find ourselves in a world of hurt one day. And by far ahead, I mean far, far, far, ahead. We’re the United States, dammit! We should be!

And if you believe what you said about the communists in China and Korea, then you live in a fantasy world full of black helicopters and government coverups of UFO landings...

12. most of this article....
comes from David's experience as an Army recruiter in provo utah. and I can tell you that he did infact meet the president.

However in my opinion, the army needs to offer more if it wants more people to sign up. he is simply wrong on that issue.
