Martha Ann was born March 31, 1929(nice timing, huh?). Her first memory as a child was the soup lines in a small Alabama town. But she survived.
As a teenager during WWII, she was infatuated with the fighting men in uniform. Damn, she had a lot of pen pals. Lucky for me, she married the right one, Robert Lee. She gave birth to 2 boys before me(I got here 3/11/1954).
Unfortunately, due to a service-connected injury, my Dad died on Nov 11, 1955(again, nice timing). I never knew him.
With a lot of help from family, and VA and Social Security survivors benefits, and Mom's tenacity, my brothers and I not just survived, but thrived.
In 1958, she met Wes(more about him on Fathers Day).
My older brother served 2 tours in Vietnam. I was a war protester. Needless to say Mom and I had a few, uh, "discussions", but she always saw my point, even if she disagreed.
My Mom is an FDR Dem. She's 77 now with failing eyesight due to diabetes. If she were a few years younger, she'd be on DU bitching on us to give the Repukes(she loves the title!)hell. She knows about DU, and asks every time I talk to her(twice a week), "What's happening on that Democratic computer site?". I gotta admit, it does my heart good.
Mom, Happy Mothers Day! You've earned every accolade we can give you, including the honorary DU username I gave you-MadMarthaBama.
Your loving son,
Ronney.
