What's a good brand if you buy them refurbished?

1. What do you want to do?
There's a lot of features & stuff available. Right now, email and most web sites support up to 1.3 megapixels.

Try C-net's shopper site http://overture1-cnet.com.com/Digital_Cameras/4007-6501_9-0.html?&subj=digital_camera_comparison&part=overture1-cnet&tag=111003 to compare; you can call go to Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.'s websites to compare features. Then check out half.com for pricing; it's sponsered by E-bay but there's no bidding.

2. The camera's only half of what you need...
and the cheaper the camera, the better advantage you can
take of the image processing software that's the whole point
of making graphic data digital, and downloadable...

In other words, if you have good software (Adobe Photoshop, for instance, or any one of several imitators, some of which are free or shareware) and you learn how to use it, you can go a long way towards getting good results from even a low-resolution image.

So wherever you go for your camera (check out epinions.com for reviews on different brands and models), under no circumstances should you content yourself with just downloading your images straight to a printer. Get some decent software, so you can highlight, emphasize, sharpen, paint over, crop, replace colors, etc. etc. I think PaintShop Pro is still shareware, and it has a lot of the same features as the expensive programs. Check out www.download.com in the 'graphics' category for the top downloads.

3. Even the Vivitar 10 ($50 refurbished at Mallwart) will take good pictures
indoors, although NOT outdoors (BELIEVE me). So TheZoo's question is really the good one. I'm insanely happy with my Camedia, bought at uBid for $180. That might be a good place to look for refurbished ones, as I bought my refurbished computer (a Vaio desktop) there and have been happy with it these two years now.
