McCartney 'to separate from wife'

LONDON, England (CNN) -- Former Beatle Paul McCartney and his wife Heather Mills are planning to separate after four years of marriage, according to media reports.

Representatives of the couple declined to comment Wednesday, but said a statement was expected later in the day.

The UK Daily Mirror newspaper quoted a source saying: "Paul hasn't come to this decision lightly, but felt things couldn't carry on as they were."

McCartney, 63, an anti-landmines campaigner Mills, 38, married in 2002, four years after the pop legend's first wife Linda died from cancer. The couple have a child, Beatrice, born in 2003.

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Heather Mills are to separate after four years of marriage.

Sir Paul and Mills, a former model, married in June 2002. They had a daughter, Beatrice, a year later.

They met through Mills' work for her charity, the Heather Mills Health Trust, which she launched after losing a leg in a motorbike accident in 1993.

Sir Paul was previously married to Linda Eastman from 1969 until her death in 1998 from breast cancer.

Recent reports suggested he and 38-year-old Mills had been living at separate addresses.

5. If I'm correct - Paul's kids weren't too keen on Heather
Paul and Linda had an amazing relationship - I know I wouldn't want to be the first girlfriend after Linda passed away

10. I've read that too many times over the years,
(about Paul's kids) although Heather Mills always denied it (and I think Paul ignored it). Stella, in particular, didn't like Heather, according to many media reports.

My feeling, when Paul McCartney started going out with Heather Mills, was that she appealed to him partly because she reminded him of Linda when she was younger. They were similar physical types. It happens sometimes when people lose a partner of many years and it's understandable. I can't help but feel that he rushed into marriage.

It was rumoured in one of the newspapers here in the UK a week or so ago (I think it was the Times) that there was a rift between the two because Heather was jealous of Paul's fame and felt not enough attention was being paid to her by the media. I have no idea if this is true or not. It's odd if it is true though because common sense should tell her that of course Paul McCartney is more famous than she is!

53. On his latest tour, I think before he did "Get Back," he told
audiences about his wife not knowing the Beatles music and how, one day, she heard "Get Back" on the radio and Paul had to tell her "yeah, that was one of mine"... :o

Sad news, though perhaps he's better off without her.

11. It appears there was ALOT of friction between her and his kids
Maybe because of the age difference? Or because of what you said -- Paula and Linda had such a long-lasting deep relationship. I'm not this huge Beatles fan, but even I was rather shocked when he got remarried rather quickly and to someone closer to his daughter's age than his own...

7. That's sad.
Though he has always been the Beatle I have least admired, I think Paul is decent man. And Heather Mills seems like a very nice lady. I hope things go well for both, no matter what direction they go in.

(Note: I recently watched "Let It Be" with my daughters. Both understood why many Beatle fans at that long-ago time found Paul annoying.)

54. By the time of the "Let It Be"
sessions, Paul was the only one who wanted to work and to keep the Beatles together, so he got a little pusshy and desperate. We should thank him, because if it wasn't for that forced cohesion we'd not have their final work, perhaps the greatest single album ever: Abbey Road.

14. Another woman who "had never heard any Beatles music"
I don't know how Paul ever fell for that line of bullshit, just as John did with Yoko. She must have been living under a rock not to know anything about the Beatles especially in the UK. I never trusted her after that line she spun, and even if she did do good work about banning minefields, she always appeared to be using him toward her own ends and publicity.
It's a shame he had to be hurt like this; I didn't like Linda for the longest time, but came to appreciate her honesty and non-bullshitness and realize what he loved in her, and Heather Mills never got anywhere near Linda's standard as far as I'm concerned.

He once mentioned how he was feeling disloyal to Linda in even considering starting a relationship with Mills, and he went outside on his farm and heard an owl hooting in the wood. He took it as a sign that Linda approved - kind of like the wishful thinking in "The Man with two Brains" when Steve Martin asked his dead wife what to do about the new gold-digger - portraits spun on the walls and ghostly screaming was heard - and all blithely ignored by the horny Martin. The little head speaking louder than the big one in both cases.

52. Maybe That's Part of the Reason
Living under a rock might be the only way someone could relate to Paul as a normal human being. Paul might not have wanted a relationship with a starstruck fan, which might include most of us.

Heather will fight the 4 elder McCartney kids for a bigger share of his estate "for my child". Just wait. No matter what kind of Will Paul has, I see a big battle looming after he dies.

36. I'm sure Paul is taking that into consideration
and making sure that all kids are equally represented in the Will and that Heather gets her money now, while he's alive.

His best course of action is a lump sum settlement to her and then a setup for child support payments. When Paul dies you know the value of the Beatles name will go through the roof and you don't want her getting ahold of that.

To be honest, Heather Mills never came across as a conniving gold digger. I don't see her as someone who would make a stink that her kid is somehow more important to Paul than his other children

47. Her reputation in the UK is exactly that - a gold-digger
Before Paul, Heather Mills was known as a predatory self-promoter who started her career as a topless model and dated a series of increasingly wealthy men. There have also been rumours for years that at one time she worked as a high-priced call girl.

There were plenty of cynics in the UK who forecast that she would get pregnant as quickly as possible after marrying Paul McCartney to make sure she would have access to his fortune no matter what happened to the marriage.

Here are a couple of links to articles written about Mills that raise some questions about her: http://www.newyorkmetro.com/nymetro/news/people/columns/celebritycity/6301/index.html and http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/05/07/1052280327181.html

34. Two years ago, at Neil Young's annual BRIDGE School Benefit ,
I was sitting on the same row, A1, with Ms. Heather ... she's a MONSTER ... she stomped up and down, huffed and puffed, made a complete ASS of herself in front of Paul, Neil, and Tony Bennett ... this has been coming for some time .... I felt sorry for Paul ... it was so embarrassing ... all those handicapped kids on the stage, in wheelchairs, and Ms. Heather Mills/McCartney needed to make herself the center of attention ...

I bet Paul is running naked through the halls of his home singing, "Ding dong the witch is dead" ... LOL !! ...

48. That is precisely what I said at the time ...
"Dear God ... if Linda were here to look down on this and see him now" ... all of the other entertainers' wives are backstage helping out or onstage with their spouses or the children at this event ... of all the wives there I'd have expected Heather to be the most involved ... she had a secretary and a bodyguard following her around during the TWO day tantrum she exhibited ... she's completely self-absorbed ...

This beneifit is for severely handicapped children and has been an incredible success ... thanks to Neil and Pegi Young ... God Bless them both ... they started this school and support it fully ... they have two kids there themselves ...

Here is a link to last fall's benefit at Bridge ...
