The Producers: Worth missing
I've been waiting with great anticipation for the DVD release of the Producers -- the movie, based on a play that was based on a movie. I've been a Producers fan since I was a kid. I love the original movie, and have watched it many times (my wife gave it to me as a gift -- she knows how much I love it).

When the broadway version came out, I bided my time until it came to my area, and I can honestly say it was the best entertainment I've ever seen on a stage. And that wasn't even the original cast.

Sadly, the third incarnation was a huge disappointment. I now feel lucky to have missed Matthew Brodrick on stage, because he really stank in the movie. He dragged down the whole movie. He seemed to try to impersonate Gene Wilder, which he couldn't even approximate. Wilder was great because he put himself in the part. A different actor would need to put HIMself into it, not try to imitate the original.

Ignoring Broderick, the rest of the movie was sub par. It just wasn't entertaining. That's interesting, since they seemed to have basically taken the Stage version and put it on film. On stage it was great. On film it just sat there.

To summarize: I highly recommend you watch The Producers... the 1968 version. Or catch a live performance.

1. Ive yet to see the remake
but I have seen the original and I loved it and it's really timeless since my five year old brother watched it and loved it. He even sings Springtime for Hitler as soon as you say Springtime.
