"Next time I have a question I'll ask someone with a penis!" |
|
Was at the checkout in Home Depot today. It was very busy as it usually is on Saturday, when this middle-aged woman with a plumbing fixture of some sort asked the cashier, a young lady,a question about "hook ups". The young lady didnt have an answer and told her that she'd get someone from plumbing supplies to help her out. This irked this woman and she angrily yelled at the cashier "Next time I have a question I'll ask someone with a penis!" She then threw the fixture on the counter and walked out. The girl at the checkout was almost in tears. Brutal!
What a nasty remark made to someone who's job is ringing up items. You'd think that she'd ask the person in plumbing supplies BEFORE you take it up to the check out.
Whats wrong with people?

I had someone throw shit at me the other day because I asked them if I could help them.
One time, a guy threw a box of pens at me when I was working customer service at an old job.

I remember a lady comic asking why would we envy something that looks like a dead chicken's neck and can be outperformed by a couple of double A batteries

Now, what was her question again?
P.S.: I find it odd that this rather-sexist line was spouted by one woman to another.
P.P.S.: Somehow, this customer bringing in a plumbing fixture, and needing someone with a penis for "hook-up" advice...does it really sound like she was planning to work on her house?

10. Perhaps her "penis" sent her out to buy the fixture and she didnt ask.. |
|
the person in plumbing supplies, thinking that everyone who works there knows everything about everything and he(her penis), would get pissed at her for buying the wrong item? Maybe she thinks that women shouldnt work in that type of a job and only men should? Whatever? She was just very nasty to that young lady, who offered to help her.

I blame it on supermarkets. Seriously.
When stores sell "everything" no single person working there can be an expert on all of it, and in most cases no one is an expert on any of it. At the risk of starting a "good old days" (which I don't believe in, btw) rant, time was you went to a plumbing fixture store to get plumbing fixtures, and generally the people there knew quite a lot about plumbing fixtures. You went to a meat market to get meat, and at least the butcher knew a lot about the meat. Etc.
Regardless, people who shop at these places expect everyone there to be an expert. People assume I'm an expert at a certain aspect of my business even though I have absolutely nothing to do with it. And they get mad when I can't answer their questions and try to direct them to the people who can. "I'm talking to YOU. I want YOU to answer the question. Are you STUPID!?" If they take it far enough, I relent and, with a confident smile, give them all the advice they want. It's quite likely completely wrong, but hey, they insisted.

18. Corporations hire people picked by their profiling computer... |
|
and are taught the rudimentary necessities only.
Remember, in the corporate realm, support is a bad thing.
Problems in society, directly or indirectly, always come from a decision made at the top. It all has to start somewhere.
Hire people with knowledge rather than brushing them aside, claiming "overqualified" helps nobody.
Indeed, our society's stance is to dumb people down rather than raise them up. US workers told not to do research for its own sake. Told to use common words because those words are more readily understood by everyone. (Well, buy a freakin' dictionary. You'll learn and we're both better for it. Don't drag me down. I'll build you up. Surely THAT is preferable? Obviously not, that costs more time and money.)
