Gay Groups Praise Killing Off Of Gay Mobster on 'The Sopranos' |
http://www.imdb.com/news/sb/2006-05-23/#tv5Gay Groups Praise Killing Off Of Gay Mobster on 'The Sopranos' Two prominent gay groups in the U.S. have praised the handling of the killing of gay mobster Vito Spatafore, played by Joe Gannascoli, on Sunday night's The Sopranos. In an interview with today's (Tuesday) New York Daily News, Damon Romine, entertainment media director for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination (GLAAD), remarked, "This was a story that laid bare the ugliness of prejudice and bigotry of so many characters on the show." The episode, said Romine, demonstrated how cable -- in this case, HBO -- presents "multidimensional" gay characters, unlike the broadcast network. Likewise, Matt Farber, president of Wilderness Media and founder of the gay cable channel MTV Logo, told the newspaper, "In many facets of America today, people are still not accepted for who they naturally are. Being killed for it, obviously, is an extreme -- though a few people have been."

1. They implicated the Catholic Church directly in the murder |
The weirdest part of the whole thing was that Phil, Vito's brother-in-law, literally came out of the closet in Vito's motel room as Phil's henchmen beat Vito.

3. I didn't either - I'll have to watch that again |
It would be an interesting catch if he did. I mean, the hypocrisy of these nutjobs (and that's anyone who is homophobic not just italian catholic mobsters) is that they will say such horrible things about the GBLT community and yet still secretly practice it.

5. That was really ironic. |
He literally came out of the closet, to kill Vito, who "came out" of the closet.

6. It was handled well on the show. |
I mean, everyone knew Vito was a dead man walking. It was probably handled as best it could be on a show like THE SOPRANOS.
Plus, one of Vito's murderers got his!
