It seemed camp and stupid at first, but I thought it was interesting just the same.

3. Yup. Cliche-ridden, bad special effects, remarkable coincidences... |
|
tiny tear in president's eye and a FEMA director who sacrificed himself.
Glad to find out how the dad got out of the car. On to the rest of the continent. I guess this means that fusing the plates together with nukes didn't work.

Everyone is assigned a place to stand and they all blow really hard at the same time.
At least, that'd be my solution if I wrote this movie.
edited to change plates to continents.

When they mentioned something about a bunch of Midwest & South Midwest states being taken out by this killer 10.5 quake, I was thinking, "hey, they're all Red states..."

9. Hold on now - Iowa is barely a red state |
|
and was a blue state for a loooooong time before it became a slight shade of red (which will be rectified in '08) so, can we survive? Iowa can feel the remaining 20 states of America after the show!

OK, it went through Houston. So why tiny tears that it goes into the Gulf of Mexico? Besides "split the country in 2, sniff", why be sad about that?

The acting is not bad in a good way. It's unbelievably boring. They managed to stretch a 70 minute movie into a 4 hour (or was it six?) miniseries with more commercials than I have ever seen. Literally interrupted every five minutes. The first one was pure torture. Never again. I love bad campy movies, like Showgirls or The Poseidon Adventure. This was not one of those. I'd rather watch paint dry. Never has there been a disaster film with less excitement.

15. I timed it. 7 minutes movie, 3 1/2 minutes ads, 7 movie, 3 1/2 ads... |
|
Although I am not sure if they did this from the beginning because I didn't notice right at first. The disaster was that everything was so boring in #1. I was rooting for the sand to suck that guy down, for the crack to open up THROUGH the refugee camp, not just next to it and extending miles AWAY from the camp but through it. I also like "mini-series" as opposed to bad movie and its sequel. Oooooooo, mini-series sounds so much better. Mini-series, mini-series, mini-series. I drink little but am getting popcorn and a beer.

16. I wanted so badly to enjoy these movies. |
|
The first one - I just rolled my eyes and laughed through it. Sorry.
This one - I watched, hoping, until the scene where the woman in the pink bra stood before the mirror, stood, stood, stood, in the mirror, in her pink bra, just displaying herself, for about fifteen seconds, before I decided: They had a chance to produce real entertainment, and they went for this cheap, tawdry shit again.
TV movies. Grr.
But, uppityperson, don't let me rain on your parade. This is just MHO. :hi:

20. Oh, honey, that was Sunday night -- or: |
|
Are they re-running it?
Anyway, pink bra scene was early, about 10-20 minutes in.
I LOVE earthquake movies, but I tend to be critical because I grew up in So. Cal. The Sylmar Quake, Feb. 9, 1971, was on my mother's 30th birthday. Next one I rememeber well was Whittier Narrows. Then Landers/Big Bear. Then Northridge. Then Hector Mine. And LOTS of others in-between.
Hector Mine was my last. It was in 2000 (I think) and that was the year I moved to MD.
Anyway I hope you really enjoy the movie! :hi:

31. you are right, I misread, thought it was a rerun, not part 3 |
|
I am slow, I know, I admit it. At the end I realized I'd missed the pink bra, the helicopter/waterfall scene, the tsunami/boat in bathtub scene, the explanation of why this was happening and why the father scientist was important and what happened to Las Vegas. I then deduced that there were 3 parts to this mini-series, making it into a mini-series, not just part 1, Part 2, repeat part 2. Dang, I was looking forward to those scenes.
Part 3 was mediocre, not as bad as part 1 to be bad enough to watch, not good enough to watch. blech. Those camera movements were ANNOYING! in out in out right left in out. I know they were trying for dramatic effect, and it worked during the earthquakey parts but the rest of the time it made me nauseous. Cliche ridden, predictable, poor effects, blech. Though the climbing through the building made me really really sad, reminders of people trying to survive the WTC bombings.
I was ready for all of them to die 1/2 way through. All I have to say is good thing we live on a hill so our 200 ft well doesn't tap into that hot lava 30 ft down.
