Well..My friends are over and I'm close to the set.

One thing though...The Dude (Taylor?) isn't even in the same league as the Girl
Not even close..

1. Maybe not in range, but he has more "star power"
This song that she is singing is her first single? Do they release a single even if they aren't picked number one?

Is this a "new" song that was written for her or something? It is a badly written song in my opinion.

5. His "single" wasn't as bad
yeah, I think he could do well in a more "hip" sort of genre. I think the girl has a great voice she just needs to work on some presence. He doesn't need to work on as much, but he needs the right marketing, and it isn't pop.

I know people rag on these people, but they aren't really as bad as some of the people that are "stars". They are talented kids that happen to be on a talent show is all. There's nothing wrong with that. Anyone who has ever worked in the the music industry knows that we are all in a big talent show starting off.

Oh man..Tell me about it.
When I worked as a Studio Musician for CBS, I saw some "Stars" that I (Probably) wouldn't hire
for a band in a honky-tonk... :)

And,,Sadly..Some Unknown singers that blew everybody's socks off in the studio but you never heard
from them again.

Well..I guess I don't have to tell you (Obviously) that as in life...there is no "Fairness" in Music.

12. Well, I've never made it to being a CBS Musician
But have done my share of the business to know what it's like. Honestly, I saw what was expected so I became satisfied doing music when I wanted to, working on local sessions as a engineer and producer and write and record on my own time. I just didn't have what it takes to try to "make it" in the business. I have a lot of friends that went on and it's fun to listen to their stories, but i am content to just do what I do. :)

..all that stuff.
And being Blessed/Cursed with Perfect pitch helped.
But that was then..Now I just play at home and fix computers for a living.. :)

10. Somebody needs to get a big auditorium in Vegas and sign
Taylor to a long term contract. Whether he wins or not, and I think he'll win.

22. That's how I picture him too
I would probably pay to see him perform live - but doubt I'd buy a record from him.

30. Actually I thought that too, but I downloaded him doing "Takin'
it to the Streets" from Itunes and was surprised how good he sounded. He would be huge in Vegas though, I'd go there just to see him.

25. Hip?
That dude is funny and I hope he wins, but on what planet would a gray haired, dorky looking guy who sounds like Michael McDonald or Joe Cocker ever be considered hip?

27. That's exactly what I was thinking
I like watching him perform but I wouldn't call him "hip" by any stretch of the imagination.

The only white R&B singer around who I would even say rates as "hip" is Van Morrison and that's partially due to his personality.

29. Agreed...
If Van Morrison were a pleasant, amiable fellow he wouldn't be nearly as hip. But because he's a mean, surly, sonofagun, it ups his hip quotient.

6. Taylor's "single" was better than Katharine's
Hers didn't seem to be in the right key for her voice, or something. That's not her fault.

I want Taylor to win because he makes me laugh out loud. And he can sing, actually.

26. Taylor is leading on dialidol.com by..
almost 8.5 points. I think that big a margin gives him a good chance of winning. Carrie was only ahead of Bo by 3 points, as I recall.

Oh well, I still think my Kat will be successful if she picks better songs after "My Destiny."

7. This finale made me miss Elliott and Chris
Edited on Tue May-23-06 08:09 PM by qanda
Katharine has a nice voice, but she tends to get screechy on her high notes and goes flat when she does a run while singing full voice. Taylor is a wonderful showman, I hope he wins just because he's the best left in the competition.

14. Personally, I prefer these two
But everyone has different opinions - it's about music, after all. I had mixed feelings about Chris - he could sing, but I never could totally shake his self-serious modern rock vibe.

9. I'd rate them equal tonight
Taylor slight advantages on songs #1 and #3, and Katharine a solid advantage on song #2. It evens out. I know that many think Taylor won the night from what I'm reading, and maybe this is how I feel just because I'm a Kat fan. I will say that Kat's 3rd song was one of the most boring songs I've ever heard.

11. When she was singing the 3rd tune, I was thinking..
..Where in the Hell did she dig that piece of crap up??
Sounded like a "B" side of a hit record.

13. And it's the supposed single
Now I know Kelly Clarkson started out with the ho-hum "A Moment Like This," but Kat's song was worse. Can't they give them better songs to start with?

20. Wow, couldn't disagree with you more. The girl is as
bland and boring as can be. I can't even remember her name she's so bland. When she makes an album it should be white with black lettering and should be titled "Album" by Female Singer.

That's not to say I love Taylor. He's channeling Michael McDonald too much for me. But at least he's interesting and I can tell him apart. I wouldn't be able to pick the female singer out of lineup.

21. Taylor always looks constipated.
Last year, Bo Bice had just that one move with the mic stand, and he lost.

Having said that, I think it was a tossup tonight.

I wish they had sung songs they hadn't sung before, though. (Those Hallmark songs don't count...eech.)

23. OK...I haven't watched the show for at least a month....
so, I probably shouldn't be expressing an opinion at all. But, I will anyway.

I liked Elliot's voice, although I didn't think he'd win because he's not "cute." Taylor seems too mannered to me, like a novelty act. If AI is about Top 40/Pop music (which I hate) Taylor is out of sync. He IS entertaining, but a Pop American Idol....I don't think so.

Katherine is a singer my grandmother and Laurence Welk would approve of. She has a nice voice, she's pretty and has a controlled non-threatening stage presence. I don't think it would be difficult to find a niche for her, commercially.

Chris? Ick. Only because I'm not a fan of that overblown, overwrought, humorless style.

The best part of AI is the auditions.

(BTW, I'm a visual artist, not a musician, so my opinions are purely theoretical.)
