I expected this to be just a dumb beefcake parade, but it was really good, and rather moving at times.

Oh and there was the Pitt boy in it that the girls all seem to like. He was actually believable for once.

Seriously, I thought this was going to be a total bomb, but it was da bomb. I guess I had it mixed up with "Alexander".

1. Pitt's black leather mini-skirt wasn't bad....
either!

I thought that "Troy" was sort of guilty pleasure: Not exactly true to the source material, but that shot of the famous 1000 ships pulling up to shore took my breath away. The Trojan horse and many other scenes were great. And did I mention Brad Pitt in a black leather mini-skirt?

Alexander was very very bad. Very bad.

4. Well, he played a sulking coward pretty well in Troy.
I believed him...

3. Did you see the llamas?
Seriously - in the market scene when the Greek fleet is sighted there is a guy leading 2 llamas. My husband and I call them Ralph the Wonder Llama and his cousin Fred. Llamas. I guess somebody didn't get the memo that llamas are a New World animal.

5. LOL. No, I didn't catch that.
But I wouldn't have noticed contrails in the sky.

Hell, the extras in the background could've been talking on cell phones for all I know. I'm not the best at picking out those details..

6. I couldn't stand the computer-generated fake armies and battles.
plus the worst acting of Brad Pitt's career.

8. I'm waiting for the Eric Bana version of the Odyssey
Too little time was devoted to Odysseus being badass, in my opinion.

19. Derh! Good catch.
Still, my essential points about the badassery of Odysseus remain unchanged.

10. Didn't like it.
Nice fights, but it shat all over the Iliad.

They did a good job portraying Greater Ajax's badassness, though.

12. I just saw it, too
And forgot to list it in another thread here that asked if I'd seen a movie lately.

I liked it. I was kind of dreading it, because I got it mixed up with the widely-scorned Alexander.

It wasn't great, but it was pretty solid. Eric Bana and Sean Bean (along with Brian Cox and some others) were great, and Brad did a pretty good job as Achilles.

13. Low expectations can do wonders for your impression of a film.
Some films, like "E.T." and "Out of Africa" left me totally underwhelmed after all the hype about how great they were.

Other films I've seen were panned or got no attention at all, but were great, like "Steal this Movie".

16. I loved "ET," but
Out of Africa just never seemed to end, and I wanted it to. Great acting, brilliantly shot, but about three hours too long. The opposite of movies like The Right Stuff, that also go for three hours but don't feel like it.

Maybe I should give Out of Africa another chance, though...

14. I did like Brian Cox and the other guy, snickering over their plot ...
... to use this as a pretext to invade Troy and seize its resources for themselves. Sounds vaguely familiar.

17. I studied The Iliad in Latin in HS,
so I kept flinching at all the liberties taken. Because, yeah, I'm a geek that way. So geeky, in fact, that the "Sword of Troy" broke me into fits of hysterical giggling. :D

But Brad Pitt's bare ass= :9

rewriting of the "Iliad".
