Heather Mills Alone

May 22, 2006 -- The Mirror

HEATHER MILLS - ALONE

Forlorn Heather Mills leans heavily on a crutch as she struggles through an airport after the break-up of her marriage to Sir Paul McCartney. It was the first time she had been pictured since the Mirror broke the story on Wednesday. Heather, 38, who went into hiding when the news was revealed, emerged to catch a flight from Gatwick to Slovenia. The ex-model, who lost a leg in a road accident before she met Macca, hauled her own large case behind her and refused the offer of a wheelchair. A fellow passenger said: "She was pale and gaunt, with barely enough strength to hold herself upright." There was no sign of her wedding ring. In Slovenia, where Heather once worked, she again refused offers of help. She was met by a friend and driven away in a rusting old Fiat. <snip>

<snip>She and Paul helped bring to the UK the Adopt-A-Minefield charity, where donors pay to have an area cleared. Ironically, it was the charity work that contributed towards the breakdown of their marriage. Macca is said to have urged her to cut back while she wanted to do more. He has not seen his wife since they split more than two weeks ago. But he is said to be "extremely concerned" about her health and has been calling her regularly. The couple are also said to have discussed their two-year-old daughter Bea, who is staying with the former Beatle. Before leaving for Slovenia, Heather cancelled the launch party for her new book, Life Balance, which gives guidance on how to improve your life. <snip>

3. No one's perfect,, but she is certainly dedicated to helping others
The age difference was too much for them to overcome. Heather is young and beautiful and wants to enjoy an outgoing lifestyle and cultivate a career while Macca wants to have his wife by his side, in a throw back to a retro era, similar to his first marriage. But times have changed. If he had married someone closer to his own age, he would have not had this problem.

Heather does seem overbearing and controlling, but her heart is in the right place when it comes to fighting for those less fortunate. Many who have are passionate about helping others in need demonstrate the same intensity and lack of willingness to compromise their principles in this area.

Heather says she will donate all of the proceeds of her divorce settlement to charity. That sacrifice will certainly go along way towards purifying any problems she may have with egotistical investment in her work.

6. That's kinda my thought on them too
She's young and activist and scrappy, and he's older and kind of introverted. I think he fell in love with her because she reminded him a bit of Linda when she was young, but forgot that he and Linda had already grown old together and he needs somebody to be old and settled with him.

They seem to share a lot of the same values though. I hope they'll be able to keep things amicable for thier daughter's sake, though I know from personal experience that staying friends with an ex for the kid is tough.

9. I guess Paul is devastated beyond comprehension over the ...
...bust up. He's such a softie and a romantic. Heather is one fiery woman and his heart could not endure the level of intensity she inflicted upon him. All the criticism she got from the media and his kids, she threw right back at him. That must have gotten pretty rough, since he is thee most popular and beloved figure in the UK. I know from all the reports that Heather is hell on wheels, but I still admire her because that is what it takes to stay focused on carnage that most people want to pretend does not exist. When you absorb the pain of the suffering, it oozes out of you in one way or another. Linda was able to balance her emotional reaction to animal cruelty and still remain optimistic, but Heather is unable to, possibly because of the pain of dealing with her own disability. Sir Paul sure can pick 'em.

10. Paul is referred to as Macca in the UK. It's sort of a nickname for him...
...there. I am a huge Paul fan too. John was my favorite beatle, but alas, he is no more.
