Poll question: Do You Read a Thread Before Responding to It?
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 07:31 AM by QC
I've come to wonder about this after seeing so many people leap into threads and boldly demand "A-HA! Have you considered ___?" when ___ has actually been under discussion for hours or even days.

Do you read or at least skim a thread before responding?

1. OR
In a few recent flame threads, it doesn't seem like people read the link or knew the facts behind the news article before they started arguing based on misinformation.

3. Gee, I guess I should have included another option.
I guess I've been spoiled by seeing all those polls in the "mainstream" media that ask questions like:

"Do you believe that George W. Bush is:

A. the savior of all humanity and a light unto the world, or
B. the greatest man in history

6. Same question.
If tehre are 300 post I am not going to read all of them. If I respond to a specific section of the thread I read that section.

11. in addition
There are some threads where the context (moniker posting), and knowing the politics of said moniker, adds to the thread... and i have responded to threads based on what is not written, but what is implied by that person saying that, not just the content.

Surely everyone does this, but it is sometimes as relevant to understand the point of view of the poster which is often missing from a snip comment starting a thread.

Example: If buddhamamma came out with a very angry thread about repressive policing, i'd infer that something happened to her personally to inflame her, as she is dispassionate in the posts i have read of her... so the "event" would speak even if it was not mentioned.
