Have I mentioned how much I love my California? |
|
Beautiful day in San Francisco...sun everywhere and the temp in the mid 70s. Bridge traffic bad, but it made the ride over the bay bridge even nicer and I had a chance to descend into the skyline and appreciate it.
Oakland, even nicer...everyone smiling and a good mellow vibe...
Oh and did I mention I got a medical 420 card today?

1. Hey, congrats on the card |

And yes, it was a lovely day today. I sometimes miss Vermont and the people I left there - I lived there for 38 years, after all. But I just love it here. It's so beautiful and the people are great. The other day when it was raining, I walked through the Redwoods up to my mailbox and it smelled SO good and the trees were so gorgeous and green and tall - I just stood under them and touched them gently, sort of marveling at being allowed to share their space.
And in 20 minutes, I can be at the beach. 45, I can be in San Francisco. I've got it all right here.

Just moved to LA from the East Coast. Though I like it a lot, don't know if I'd make it my permanent residence after a few years so am wondering where the best of CA lies...

5. The best of California is north of the grapevine |
|

e.g. the bay area and everything North of it.
LA is fine...I don't hate it like many bay area-ites do. But it's a different beast altogether.
SF is what the rest of the country would be like if the 27% that still support Bush suddenly died from massive coronaries in tandem.
LA is what the rest of the country would be like if all of the shallow, vapid, but still fun to hang around friends from high school decided to create their own nation.

6. I don't like it so much down there |

I'm just south of San Jose. Lots of mountains, gorgeous beaches, cool people, tons of stuff to do. I can get to San Francisco in under an hour, Santa Cruz (one of the coolest towns in the universe) is 20 minutes away, I live surrounded by Redwoods, Tahoe is about 4 hours and the weather changes enouth to stay interesting. Beautiful summer days with always a light breeze so you're not boiling, cold but not freezing in the winter. Snow conveniently located not far away if you want it but not so close that you have to deal with it.

There is no smell quite as beautiful as redwoods and manzanita trees in the rain....

I saw previews. There was a movie a while back where the bridge got fried by the suns rays too.
Why is it always the Golden Gate bridge? It's not as much of a major thoroughfare as the Bay Bridge is...

9. If you go on either during rush hour, you'll see a lot of them ;) |

They are two awesome looking bridges though.
A friend of mine works on the GG bridge doing maintenence. Once he was able to let me and my friend scale the supports of the bridge. There is no view in the world that compares to the view from ON TOP of the GG bridge. Euphoric vertigo.

But they clip you to each of the cables on each side of you, so if you do pass out, you're covered.
