Take the elevator at the Hotel Yorba .

I was watching
with one eye on the other side
I had fifteen people telling me to move
I got moving on my mind
I found shelter
In some thoughts turning wheels around
I said 39 times that I love you
to the beauty I had found

Well its 1 2 3 4
take the elevator
at the hotel yorba
I'll be glad to see you later
all they got inside is vacancy

I been thinking
of a little place down by the lake
they got a dirty little road leading up to the house
I wonder how long it will take till we're alone
sitting on the front porch of that home
stomping our feet on the wooden boards
never gonna worry about locking the door

Well its 1 2 3 4
take the elevator
at the hotel yorba
I'll be glad to see you later
all they got inside is vacancy

You'll prob'ly say I'm silly
think childish thoughts like these
but I'm so tired of acting tough
and i'm gonna do as i please
Let's get married
in a big cathedral by a priest
coz if i'm the man you love the most
you can say i do at least

And its 4 5 6 7
grab your umbrella
grab hold of me
cause I'm your favorite fella
all they got inside is vacancy

"Hotel Yorba"
The White Stripes

I was just waisting time on a sunday afternoon taking pictures of Detroit stuff (my current hobby) and drove by the Hotel Yorba (I was actually across the freeway from it on Fort St.)

It's getting harder, it seems, to take pictures of area landmarks without getting stares and harassment.

About 2 weeks agoI took some photos of this new suspension style over pass on I-94
that was built to "spruce-up" the drive in from the airport for the superbowl.

I was stopped on the way back to my car by the friendly Taylor city P.D.

They honest to god frisked me, held me at the rear of my car while one officer got my license from under my sun visor, looked through the pics on my digital camera and wanted know why I was taking pictures of "the bridge" and told me how we couldn't be too careful these days etc... (if we can take pictures of local landmarks then the terrorists win I guess). I shit you not, this really happened.

When they told me that "technically" I had broken no laws and that I could go they said it in such a way as to leave me with the impression that they wished it were otherwise. (Hmmph Cops)

Oh well. Things can't stay this scary and fucked up forever.

1 2 3 4...

1. you should try taking pictures of railroads
It's actually a fairly large hobby, but damn, do local cops ever get off on giving them the third degree.

2. I've got the Fermi 2 Nuclear Power plant about 20 minutes
south of me. Great big cooling towers to snap some pictures of. Maybe I'll go, just to be a smart-ass, and see how long it takes for the man to start hasseling me...

:)
