So what's wrong with fanny packs? |
|
I just looked over and saw mine hanging from the piano and I thought of how many people think they are ridiculous. On a trip, carrying a camera, smokes, money, wallet and a few other things :), they are great to have. Why do so many people think they suck?
So how has the fanny pack gotten such a bad rep?

I think the last time I cared if I looked "cool" was about 1978, and that was just making sure my bells were covering my earthshoes in a cool way. :)

Professional bodybuilders. You know, the Mr. Olympia types. I think it's because they can't wear pants and put things in their pockets to begin with. Let one of those folks that think they suck tell one of those freaks that they suck.
Oh, the pain.

People, no matter how much you love your fanny pack, I do hope you realize that people are pointing and laughing at you every second you have it on!
They should be sold with a disclaimer: WEAR AT YOUR OWN RISK.

|
People who point and laugh at people because they have something that isn't "cool" enough for their small minds.
People like that should have a disclaimer tattooed on their foreheads: I am an idiot for pointing and laughing at someone because I am too self-conscious to think for myself. :)

Most people don't have fannies worth emphasizing -- that's what a fanny pack does. It emphasizes the backside. If it's worn in front, then it emphasizes the gut, again usually not flattering. I'm all for practicality but I also like to look good. I say minimize what you need to carry and try to get it to fit in your pockets. Or use a backpack; it looks a lot nicer than a fanny pack. If you insist on a fanny pack, wear a jacket; a jacket can hide a small fanny pack.

It had enough room for an id, a small set of car keys and a couple of credit cards. Technically, it was sold as a fanny pack but it fit more like a belt w/ a built-in sliding wallet.

I used to have one years ago but got rid of it. Now I realize how nice it would be to have one whenever I take my daughter hiking. I could put my car keys, my ID, a few bucks, a water bottle, a small pack of tissues and even a small bag of trail mix in it instead of taking a small bulky bag w/ us.
Besides, hikers don't usually care what you look like.

50. I started using one a couple of years ago..... |
|
When I'm travelling. I didn't want to be burdened with my big heavy purse at that time, since I'd be carrying my camera.
So the fanny pack made a lot of sense. It isn't beautiful, but it is black and I wear it off-set from the absolute front. On an angle, if you will.....
I LOVE it!
And......I really don't care what other people think......
Not having something heavy on my shoulder is sooooo helpful!

|
I don't like stuff dangling from my midsection that doesn't normally dangle from there-- whether it's a cellphone, PDA, or anything else.
I carry a leather shoulder bag that's the size of a small womens' purse. It holds my phone, sunglasses, iPod, and a small notebook. I sling it over the alternate shoulder so it's difficult to purse-snatch, too.

but it sounds like a discussion of, err, 'feminine products' from this end. And A BIZZARE ONE AT THAT.
Therefore I think it might mean something different in America.
But there is no way I am going to ask what you think it means in case it means what I think it means.
Edit: "I used to have a brown leather one" :wtf: Edit two: "some things just shouldn't hang from your midsection" :puke:
