It was nothing really new to me. But hopefully it got my brother-in-law thinking a little. He was always a dem supporter/bush hater, but he never really thought Global Warming was a serious issue. He might think about it a little more. But hes still hung up on the economic aspects of cleaning up the environment. Hes still convinced that we have to find a way to do it without killing peoples jobs.

I'm bringing my 9 year old son today. It wont be an out of the blue subject for him we talk alot about the environment and spend a lot of time outdoors.

13. Is it depressing?
I have a sneaking suspicion that after I see it I will foam at the mouth and rant for thirty solid minutes and then be depressed for a couple of days. Based on my reaction to the trailer, heh.

15. This so-called "global warming" thing: should I take it seriously?
Aren't we just seeing the earth continuing to recover from the Little Ice Age of the 17-18th Century? Isn't the melting polar ice caps really just God's way of punishing Scandinavia for its high rate of illegitimate births? Even if the world is warming up, why should I worry since my house has air conditioning?

17. Do some more research than just listening Al Gore
The truth is we just don't know how detramental Global Warming will actually be. It will redefine existing existing ecosystems now. The oceans will rise, more deserts will be created in some places, more places will experience tropical settings... is this bad.. bad if you own property along the coast... but there have been different eras defined by climate patterns. Ice ages and tropical periods in the earth's history.

For example, when I was in college in S.C. we took core samples that show beach front property at times in capital of S.C. (western sections of S.C.). We just don't know how species will adapt or how man will adapt. The ocean actually absorbs a lot of carbon. Or will we expel too much carbon, and entrap ourselves becoming a "venus" like state. We won't know until we get there. Should we find a renewable source of energy, no doubt. When fossil fuels do run out, we will feel the effects. And its stupid to continue wars over oil. It is an interesting subject worth study. My professors specifically said that it is happening too fast and species won't have time to catch up, but there are geological records that show immediate diruption (such as meteor/ asteroid collisions) that changed things virtually overnight.

22. no I haven't seen his movie
But I have read his literature. It is part of the Environmental Science curriculm that I had to take to get my degree. I am actually fascinated at the prospects of how our environment will change due to global warming... It will virtually change everything we take for granted being like it is now. Unfortunately, I won't be alive to see the overwhelming effects that it will have on our climate.

No seriously, do you think it's okay for an intelligent 10 year old? She is really interested in the topic and knows a fair bit already. She's heard a lot of us talking about it and wants to see it but I hate laying out the cash if she's going to be bored.

25. Saw it last night too
The theater was showing it on two screens. I got there at 7:15 and they had posted on the box office that all the shows up until 9:30 were sold out. The 9:30 show had a few empty seats, probably no more than 20. Very well done, I would have liked to have seen more emphasis on what higher temperatures would do to food production and what some of the temps that they had in India (122) would impact this country. Also when he talked about potential of waters rising he emphasised the population centers in India and China more than the US. Thats not to say its trivial to have 100 million weather related refugees but that it would seem more real if brought closer to home.
