Poll question: Favorite Gay Icon Music or Acting
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 01:29 PM by ronnykmarshall
This actually for everyone. But most of the gay guys will get it. Please add any addional icons. Being a 40-something, I might be a little old school.

8. Rock Hudson

Remember the movie where he's the "man's man" super fisherman outdoorsman but really he can't fish worth a darn, he only writes books about it?

A perfect "in the closet" role for him.

10. I caught the last 10 minutes of a Margaret Cho performance ...
during the 2000 HRC march events in DC

... it was the best part of my ticket ...

she knows ... she's been there ... she has experienced the discrimination from corporate good ol'boys ... directly and speaks of what I experienced

and, during ovations, I proudly called her by her Korean name

loudly ... the way she would do it in her act: MORRRR-RRRRRAAAANAAA

after she got 'the treatment' from the networks, she got a dog - great therapy -- I had done the same thing ------

Margaret Cho!

17. The Village People
Sure, when I was a wee lad I didn't understand what "Macho Man" was about (or any of their other songs), but I still dug them. They're still a classic piece of campity, with a catchy hook.

Feel my body, baby......

20. Gotta go with good ol' Bette from Radford High
You did know that, right? That, in addition to being altogether worthy of inclusion on this most excellent list, Bette's as local as, say, Don Ho?

Oddly enough, I have met her sister and brother -- both back in New York, where Susie works for NY State, before I got here -- although it WAS at the home of my friends who are from here originally!

Confused? You won't be, after today's episode of Poi :-)

21. Margaret Cho is a gay icon?
I'll add that to the endless list of things I didn't know. I'll ask my friend Eric about that when I see him tomorrow. At any rate, I voted for Bette. You just can't beat her history.

Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 06:57 PM by ibegurpard
I worship her!
I think she's kind of an overlooked gay icon.
