Poll question: Quick assessment... |
|
I've been at my current job for 15 years today and not a single solitary thing I've ever done has been used in any way by anybody.
Is it time to find more a more fulfilling line of work?

4. Well, I've written computer simulations... |
|
Video games... Graphics drivers...
I've also done tons of stuff with hardware.
But, it always dies a quiet death in the prototype stage.
I'm feeling kind of mortal lately.

Been there, done that!
Out of the pan into the fire.
You name a language and I've written something in it, starting with Assembly.

on whether you really want people to use the software you create, or if you're just happy to create it.

8. For a long time now... |
|
I've been happy just to create.
Self-gratification only goes so far.
After the 6 gazillienth time, with no takers. Stick a fork in me, I'm done.

10. If you're doing the work you want to do and living the life you want to |
|
live then keep doing it. Otherwise, save your money (if you haven't been already, and a programmer ought to have enough spare cash to save) and when you got enough (100 to 200K), go do what you want with your life, including travel and/or living in another country. There's no reason to just waste away until retirement unless the financial situation you've put yourself in forces you to.
