1. "Church Key"
by the Revels. (Oh wait -- guess it's not an instrumental, since they say "Church Key" several times ... )

2. Good choice!

I didn't include "Church Key" because it was only a regional hit. As such, I figured the lion's share of folks who saw this poll wouldn't know the song. Glad somebody does, though!

7. Notice how this guy only ever posts...

...to say something disdainful about the music I like? If not for the new rules regarding civility, I might be tempted to call Jim Sagle an asshole. But I'll refrain.

5. Miserilou...
... rocks! But my brother's signature tune (on the drums) is Wipe Out... so I'm in a bit of a pickle here!

Did you know: On MASH, in the episode with the Greek soldiers (don't know the name, but it's the 'Spam Lamb' episode), a soldier is playing the bouzouki and the tune is 'Miserilou'.

6. Wipe out
If you get missing it, check out my favorite beach here on Maui and I live here. www.napilibay.com Surf is not up today but it is a live cam. I was going to put my favorite up at pipeline but it is not working.

8. There are several I feel I need to mention.
"Cecilia Ann" by the Surftones. Great song, plus the Pixies covered it. Neat.

"The Jester" by Jim Messina and His Jesters. Crazy, rockin' instro; notable for being the one recorded instance that Jim Messina did not suck.

"Inertia!" by the Hustlers. The evilest bass line you've never heard. Great piano, great guitar (of course), and a rippin' sax solo.

...and my favorite surf instrumental of all time?...

"Scramble" by the Hollywoods. Who knew central Ohio had such a raging surf scene?

9. Pipeline
I fell in love with this song immediately and bought it the first chance I could when it first came out as a single. Anything dealing with minor chords catches my attention.

I liked Penetration by the Pyramids in a similar way but the instramentation was not as good. Miserlou and Walk, Don't Run rank up there as near equals to Pipeline.
