germany v. Poland WWII at the World cup |
|
lots of fouls, lots of yellows, and lots of action. Both sides are running flat out. The talent level of these two teams is awesome. Many close shots and near misses, but it is still scoreless with 15 minutes left. Poland is now 1 man down (two yellows, the second a really silly worthless foul)

5. Translation for non-US audiences |
|
The joke here is that football is so boring as to be near unwatchable, a pretension held almost exclusively by the US population. Conversely, watching three-hundred pound men dressed as astronauts stand around in a circle for 45 minutes out of an hour (and this takes approximately three hours) is the height of excitement. They call this "American football."

But actually untrue. A majority of Germans have ancestors who immigrated from Poland in the past century; several of the German players hold dual-citizenship.
Poland is at the moment in a difficult phase; I am a bit touchy regarding the "Poland jokes".

9. Not just dual-citizenship in some cases |

**cough** Miroslav Klose **cough**
German striker Miroslav Klose (wears the number 11 shirt) was born in Poland and could have easily played for Poland instead of Germany.
Oddly, thanks to his father (also a professional footballer) spending several years playing for AJ Auxerre, Klose could have qualified to represent France at international level too
