4. Shouldn't some contemperary Disney movies get nominated?
I think a very good case could be made for Beauty and the Beast or the Lion King for cell animation and for Toy Story and Finding Nemo if CGI counts.

7. Agreed - you only get 10 slots in a poll
I would say Ghost in the Shell should be there as well as Akira and Aladin!

6. Other
I hadn't seen many animated films for many years then me and a girlfriend of mine took her daughter to see Disney's Tarzan movie back in the late 90's. I was very impressed with the new animation techniques and how real they looked back then. I'm sure it's improved even more since then but I'll always remember how much I enjoyed the movie and the soundtrack music.

12. Hard to choose over time periods like that, and over styles
Snow White was incredible animation for its day, but it looks childish next to Spirited Away. WIth CGI you have Pixar films that you can't even compare to older animation.

BTW, you left of Tripplets of Bellville, which was a unique animation style that deserves to be on your list--along with a dozen other entries you couldn't fit, I guess! :)

For the record, I voted for Spirited Away, for a combination of stunning animation and a story that could only be told through animation, rather than simply a story that was filmed in animation, like Fireflies or Snow White (Not criticizing either film--both were brilliant--just explaining my own motivations). Also, several Myazaki films could be included, so I'll use Spirited Away for all of them.

15. Mononoke Hime
Epic story, but somehow it seems so close to home.
Also, imo, Miyazaki's best designed characters-- epecially the wolves.

19. Yeah, I know. I love that movie.
I love that fact that the love song between Jack and the Rag Doll is in the minor key. It's so beautiful. And I love how the minor key of the song resolves into the major key at the end. Great stuff.

23. My favorites
Classic shorts: What's Opera, Doc?, One Froggy Evening or The Cat Came Back or 25 Ways to Quit Smoking

Full length: The Man Who Planted Trees, Watership Down or Beauty and the Beast

Bambi Meets Godzilla is, of course, in a class all by itself.

Edited on Sat Jun-17-06 04:16 PM by scoey1953
Cloudu and his amazing sword...

Tifa Lockhart - Cloudu's love interest.
The characters were so life like and real, but were not based on any particular person.

ANOTHER GREAT ANIMATION was the combination of two SUPER TALENTS in Frank Frazetta (Conan the Barbarian Book Covers) and Ralph Bakshi (Wizards/Lord of the Rings Animated)for the film: FIRE AND ICE
