An interesting soccer question...
Edited on Sun Jun-18-06 02:43 PM by JonathanChance
Considering the nature of some English hooligan chants tailored specifically for certain countries (i.e. "Where's your navy? At the bottom of the sea!" for Argentina, WWII references for Germany)

What sort of Chants would the English Soccer Hooligans be shouting if USA ever Faced off against England?

2. Probably none
The tailored chants (and they're NOT hooligan chants, they're just chants by supporters to wind up the opposition) are usually aimed at countries that England have had recent history with. In the case of Argentina that's the Falklands war and the 1986 World Cup quarter final game where Maradona scored twice against England, one was one of the greatest goals ever seen at the World Cup and the other was the most blatant hand balls ever seen.

The Argentinians try to wind up the English at the same time, Lionel Messi's boots have an inscription on them relating to Maradona's "hand of god" goal from 1986.

There's a lot of jingoism that surrounds football, in every country, not just England. As there hasn't been any real antagonism between the UK and US over recent years there probably wouldn't be any specific chants about the US team, if the US play France there may be a few choice chants from the French fans though.

At a guess the England fans would probably simply try to get behind the England team, if England were to go a goal or two up then the chant would probably be you're shit, and you know you are or a nice flexible chant like let's all laugh at the yankees.

Incidentally, England did play the US in a friendly last year, in the US - England won 2-1 :)

3. Question is, what chants will the US come up with against England?
Revolutionary War and War of 1812 refs; Bush/Blair refs; or what?

7. I think that you credit the "fans" with too much thought there.
Crass Nazi references for Germans are easy - references to the Falklands for Argentina are easy - knowing that the War of 1812 even took place (still less that British forces burned Washington during it) is probably above the level of these folk.

They'd probably just call you all wankers or something like that - though a negative reference to Bush wouldn't be beyond the imagination.

6. "We have not yet begun to fight"
Perhaps something to shout if the Brits get an early lead?

8. According to footballchants.org
The US fans came up with the slightly bizarre

We've got dentists

That's the only one I've seen that US fans have sung to England fans.

If you want to go through the rest of the chants, they're here, there you can review the traditional chants of British football fans.
