To my Dad.
He probably won't see this, but...

Thanks for playing with me...

Thanks for letting me help you with household projects...

Thanks for teaching me when I had been wrong...

Thanks for talking to me...

I would have never developed a love for model trains if it had not been for my dad. He loves model trains and I do to. I would have never learned how to hang drywall and build a wall, hang windows, doors and other things. My dad was the enforcer in the house. I knew I was in deep trouble when he got mad. But it made me a better person. My dad would talk to me and discuss things. The most rememorable talk was when we were moving me to my new apartment, and he was riding with me in my truck and he told me I was a man and that I acted like one and that I was a good man. I felt so proud that day to hear that from him. I was 21 and he made me feel that I was not a kid anymore. I love my dad and now that he is getting older I wish I was closer so that I could help him more than I do.

1. This is really beautiful, my dear tex....
You are so very eloquent here today....

Very sweet and thoughtful too.....

Sounds to me as though you were lucky to have him for your dad....

And he was lucky to have you for his son!

I know you don't have kids now, but if you ever do, your dad will make one heck of a role model!

Thanks for posting this......

That was really nice. :) Your dad should be proud, and so should you!

My dad had a lot of problems, but I always knew he loved me and did what he could. He brought home a pet puppy when I was about a year old because he never had a dog growing up and always thought kids needed pets. My mother nearly freaked out, but when she saw how much I loved that dog (Quarter was his name---a mutt that was a quarter of this, a quarter of that...), she gave in. Dad and I took care of Quarter (yes, I did help as much as I could even though I was very young) until Quarter passed away about three years later (heartworms :( ), but I never stopped loving him. Dad always wanted us to have pets, and my siblings and I had dogs, cats, hamsters, gerbils, pet white mice, and even a squirrel that was abandoned by his mother. My father instilled in me the great love and compassion I have for animals, and I will be forever grateful to him for that. :loveya:  I told him this a few years ago, and he bawled like a baby because he was so touched. (I'm actually crying a little while I'm writing this---it means that much to me.) :)

5. Well I told my dad what I wrote today...
and he kind of got quiet. He also was gruff and grumbled about my sister getting me a dog when we lost our old one. My dad grumbled that we would never have a dog again, but you should of seen his face the day my sister brought Katy bee home and he picked her up the first time. It was a grumpy old man having his heart melted by a baby cocker spaniel. I tease my dad about his being grumpy but he is a what you call a loveable grump.

He is. Mom's great to but she can be a little paranoid and un-trusting. But it is fun messing with her. I reminder her today about the slur of curse words she let out when the rat ran between her feet one night when we were kids. She woke the whole house up and it was a slur that would make sailors say "Hey lady watch your mouth we got truck drivers in here."

8. He made it interesting.
YOu do not want to be in the same room when he is nailing stuff. He had a way of hitting a nail with a hammer and he could shoot that nail across a room. I don't know how many times I dodged flying nails.

10. Well we were not rich...
We were happy and comfortable. We were cold sometimes, and hot sometimes, but we never went hungry and we learned to invent our own toys and things. I spent a lot of time outside but I would never trade any of it for all the money in the world.
