OH MY GOODNESS - IT'S A BOY!!!!
Mind you, I don't have that much experience with raising cats. But when I lifted the tail yesterday I didn't see anything hanging down and assumed the cat I found was a girl.

Um, she's not.

I just came home from lunch to check on the place (it smells like cat piss) and I bought a few extra toys (which the cat took to none of them including the catnip).

But I also bought a cat brush and the cat went crazy for it. Seems the cat is into grooming.

Then the cat rolled over on what I thought was HER back and there it was. A tiny little cat woody! Turns out this missing little girl is really a missing little boy. Seems the brush was a turn on and I'm not going to say what the cat did next.

5. Well techinically I'm not his first love
because there still could be a family out there missing him. But the cat hasn't show any interest in leaving my apartment.

6. the brush was a turn on...
Reminds me of the cat I used to have.

We had a blanket that had coloring similar to his -- black and white. He decided it was his girlfriend, and he would drag it around the house, and do his man-kitty thing to it.

Poor confused guy.

8. i've never had a boy cat that wasn't neutered
so i haven't had that experience. if he is fixed as soon a medically possible the piss smell shouldn't be so strong and he won't start spraying. also i have noticed that my cats didn't like catnip when they were younger. when they are about a year or more they start getting hooked.

13. If he gets fixed it won't be til next year
Only because (as I've mentioned before), there may be an owner out there. I'll just make sure to buy pet deoderant to get the smell out and keep the bedroom closed so he doesn't do anything on my clothing and/or bed.

And next year is 3 weeks away, if no one claims him - he'll be mine.

17. on neutered cats
Edited on Fri Dec-12-03 04:39 PM by Bertha Venation
At a cursory glance, a neutered male can easily be taken for a female. With those big ol' furry cojones missing, there's not much to see under the tail.

All five of my boys are neutered, and all five of them have had a woody from time to time.

Males' pee is very strong-smelling, neutered or not. Neuters usually don't spray, but when they have territorial battles they do mark. Perhaps your new boy is marking his new territory.

There's some great stuff for cat pee odor: "Simple Solution Cat Spray & Urine Stain & Odor Remover" (and many, many other products that also work well).

20. Well newboy has pretty much said it's his apartment
the smell is bad. I'm assuming he'll do this once and be happy as long as I don't bring more cats into the home (and figure out if he's neutered and get it done).

I should have just left the cat alone!!!

11. True story, Lynne
When I first got Male and Female, I was told that Male was a boy cat (hence their names).

I took them to the vet for "fixing".

Imagine my surprise and laughter when the vet called to let me know that not only was "Male a Female", she was also in heat.

I had to pay extra because of that.

Hey -- we all live and learn :D

12. At least you learned
earlier than I did. I once had a full-furred cat I called Smokey and he surprised me one day by giving birth to 5 kittens. And I was or should have been smarter than to think she was a he.

14. Ok, this isn't a picture of the cat - but the same coloring/patterns

It's not this breed of cat (and mine has a tail). But the coloring and patterns are almost identical

16. A little less grey on the face
But yeah, that's what we're talking about

Why you want to adopt him? I think I'm getting attached to the kitty but I'm not sure if I can handle raising a cat.

19. I'm trying not to get too attached to this thing
My mother has already said she's prepared for the phone call with me crying because the owners have claimed their cat.

January 1st is the deadline. I am going to pay $10 on Sunday to get him (still nameless) a rabies shot. The local humane society does these once a month and since he was outside I'd like to make sure.

However, I'm not paying to have this cat possibly fixed knowing that someone could come back and claim him. I'm not even sure how to tell if he's fixed or not. I mean, he still gets hard - just not sure if the juice (other than pee) is flowing.
