Python's can turn on their owners, and a six year old has no business chumming up to a six foot long python. No snake is truly tame.

2. That's an accident prone to happen.
I had snakes as pets, and the biggest one was just a very little Ball Python, Python regius (also know as Royal Python), about 1.2 metres long. Of course she liked to wrap around you if you carried her, and just the equal pressure of her being wrapped around (your arm, your throat) made most of the blood circulation stop. And she was just holding on, nothing more.
