17. Aren't they cool looking?
You need 4 of them - named John, Paul, George and Ringo.

It's a Gloucester Corona, a type of canary. I saw them at a bird show once, and just couldn't stop staring. Just so - intriguing, yet oddballish at the same time. :hi:

20. Forget the Beatles
I think that bird is an emo kid!

I've seen them at the pet store. Males are the singers, at least regular canary males are.

5. Yep...our neighbor has a bunch of crested chickens like this
We have a few Araucanas, which can lay colored eggs (ours lay green and pinkish ones) and have puffy feathers around their cheeks, like this...

...and we also have a very fluffy banty hen that looks like she might be some kind of silky cross, but without the fuzzy, fur-like plumage.

The furry ones look like this:

Chickens are really very fascinating and diverse creatures, if not too bright, lol.

14. Oh, our eggs are magnificent...
Well, according to everyone who has tried them they are, anyway. I don't like eggs, myself...but I know that our eggs make great french toast, brownies, etc...lol.

The best eggs are from free-range chickens. Unfortunately our chickens are in a cage, because we have dogs and the two species don't tend to mix very well...but it's a big cage with lots of room, fresh hay, and a big tree branch for them to roost on. Combine that with good food and fresh water and you have happy chickens with wonderful eggs.

21. my, he's handsome!
I really like chickens, too -- don't eat them, just think they can be quite lovely. A friend was wild about French chickens/roosters -- preserving plumage patterns, etc.

Near the River Po. A very old breed -- not endangered yet, luckily, but the rare breeds organization in the US is watching out for them.

What a beautiful bird! I hatched out some Polish chicks last year, in my home incubator (they're currently at a friend's farm). They sure have cool personalities ... one of the babies used to squeeze through the bars of the brooder cage and walk around the house looking for me, when he was only a couple of days old!
