So, I learned drunken 20-something men and monopoly don't mix |
|
What a vicous game we had on the weekend. Six hours long. Friendships were almost lost, fist almost thrown. My buddy pointed out on the Marvins Gardens card there appeared to be a bloodspot. Anyone ever had such an experience playing monopoly?

1. Got a ride home from a couple of drunken 20-somethings one night |
|
Me and my girlfriend, who were also 20-something at the time. We knew these guys casually but they seemed to think driving us home meant that they were invited to come up and party all night long. As well as stay the night.
Thinking swiftly, we invited them to play Monopoly. They were taken aback, until we told them we'd play strip Monopoly which we quickly made up some rules for. My friend acted as banker, we cheated the whole game, freely robbing money from the bank under their drunken noses until they were blearily naked and we were fully clothed and extremely amused. Somehow we fit in a clause that if they lost all their property, they had to go home and surprise, surprise, they lost all their property and we shooed them out the door, tossing after them stray socks and underwear.
No blood but plenty of humiliation.

2. Every fucking time I play, except fists are usually thrown. |

Monopoly is a grueling game, fraught with physical and emotional hardship. It all starts out with me and the car, then it goes into dispute of some stupid rule that no one ever the person it will benefit has heard of, accusations of cheating and finally two hours later, the board will be flipped and somebody will be on the floor complaining about their precious little head smashing into the concrete floor.
SteppingRazor and I have already decided that if we ever meet in real-life, we can't play Monopoly, because we're both too adamant about being the car.

I mean, sweet Jesus, what else are you gonna be? The hat? The fucking thimble, for God's sake? It's the car or nothing.
And, yeah, it usually goes bad from there. Especially because I tend to play hardcore Monopoly. If you land on my hotel, and you can't pay, then fuck you, gimme your shit, you're out of the game. None of this "Oh, you can pay me later" bullshit.
I also tend to get ravingly drunk, as I do with most any game except poker (and then only in casinos. Friendly home games, I still get drunk), and throw spare plastic houses at people who piss me off. If they want to take it to the next level, that's their call. But when it comes to Monopoly, one always has to be prepared for fisticuffs and gunplay.
On edit: Hey, haruka3_2000, good to see you're a free woman. Court not too nasty, I hope?

He wouldn't sell me New York Ave earlier. So when he went broke and owed me rent money I bought it for a very atrocious price.

8. Ever played Strip Monopoly? |
|
You have to drink a lot first. A player forfeits an article of clothing instead of going to jail; or you can make up other rules. It's quite an interesting game.

9. I had a friend in college who refused to play that game because it is... |

bitterly fought.
In my childhood experience, Monopoly was not too big an issue, but games of Risk usually ended when someone quit and the chaos caused by their departure made the game unplayable

19. Yeah Risk caused problems |
|
I had one game where two people nearly came to fisticuffs, and my sister stopped talking to me for a few weeks.
All because aliances were forged, and we ganged up on her to eliminate her and she got pissy cause she said I did it intentionaly. To which I replied "Uh yeah. It's a game of elimination. You're a tough opponent, so I got you eliminated first." To which she stormed off.
Then one of the other guys turned on the third, and he got all angry that he was betrayed, and all that. They nearly came to blows, and one eventually tossed the board.
It was awesome.

20. I once taught a bunch of university students in Germany how to play risk |
|
I was studying over there and there was a free trip to the alps for people majoring in our subject so I signed up. We spent 3 days in a lodge. During the day people from the department would come and tell us necessary info about the program, and by night we drank and played board games. I have never seen as hotly contested a game of UNO in my life, people would get penalty cards for breaking the rythm of play. Anyway, they had a risk set there and nobody knew how to play, so I showed them how it's done. They mocked me as being a "super-patriot" when I took Eastern US (I was the only foreigner there), but it was a fun game. Afterwards we played some German Language edition Trivial Pursuit. It was a good time

But he only watched the Risk game for a little while. He seemed more interested in dealing out penalty cards in the Uno game.

I've never heard of people getting violent over a board game. You part of a group of day traders who get together to play?
