15-Year-Old Steals Hummer, Runs Into 2 Police Cruisers
<snip>

A 15-year-old is being held in a juvenile assessment center for stealing a Hummer and later running into two St. Petersburg police cruisers.

No one was seriously injured, but Margaret Jacobs was arrested on a felony charge of attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer and various other charges. Another teen in the car with her was arrested on a misdemeanor charge.

Police say she was found Tuesday night behind the wheel of a stolen 2003 Hummer H2 and drove the 8,000-pound vehicle into the police cruisers, destroying them.

Jacobs told police she didn't steal the car, but that a friend gave her the keys. At 15, Jacobs doesn't have a valid driver's license.

1. Nice story, stupid teenagers,
But I think it's a bit over the top to charge the girl with "attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer" I mean really now, it was a car wreck perpetrated by couple of joy riding teens:shrug:

2. I think they do that to scare them...
a friend of mine threw a water balloon at a cop cruiser and received the same charge. Later, it was lowered to a misdemeanor after he had nearly wet himeself in jail all night.

3. That could very well be
Hopefully that is all it is. Otherwise if I were the parent, I'd be appealling all the way to the Supreme Court.

5. Depends on whether they wrecked deliberately.

The article doesn't say. If they did hit the police car on purpose, the charge is appropriate. Cars are deadly weapons, and ANY person who maliciously uses one against ANY other person should be locked away for a long time. It's no different than shooting a gun at someone...even if you miss, it's still attempted murder.

4. While I hope no one was hurt
I hope the hummer didn't survive.
