Help!: How to Politely Ask to Be Removed From Email List
So there's this guy, he's nice enough. We're not super-close, we played in a band together. We've butted heads here and there, and we never hang out outside the band - we would likely never hang out period, were it not for this group.

The group is still together gigging sporadically. So the quandary is this, he has added me to his list of email buddies to whom he sends lengthy emails about his personal travels, escapades, crusades, projects, parties, political opinions, social projects, etc.; things that I am not at all interested in and by which I am easily irritated, for some reason.

I know, I know, it's just a few keystrokes to delete it forever, but it's starting to get old. The most recent one was about him and his girlfriend in Thailand - I REALLY DON'T CARE!! :-)

So, how to ask him politely, "Please stop sending me your insufferably boring, pontificating emails about your life". It's starting to have a voyeuristic feel to it, i.e., I don't know him very well, why would he add me to this list whereby he shares intimate details about his personal life? It's weird and I want it to stop. Any advice?

1. Do you have the ability to set up a filter?
I can send email from some senders directly into my trash folder.

3. MissMillie's right---a filter will trash it for you automatically
However, if you really need to tell him, you can say that your mailbox is being overrun and you are just trying to cut down on the quantity of stuff in it. Hubby gets all kinds of bullshit emails and sometimes gets "over quota" nastygrams from our ISP. Something like that might work too. :)

I know what it's like. It's annoying as hell.

it's a fine line...i don't wanna be rude, but what kind of person adds acquaintances to an email list like this? furthermore, who has the time for this stuff?!?!? What I would give for a fifth of his free time.

Came out in the 80s, but it's really an appropriate song these days. :hi:

6. That's tough.

I somehow ended up on a prayer list for a local church , so I keep getting emails every week from someone named Cletis (I'm not kidding, that's his name) copying me in on who is being prayed for, and the reason. My name is similar to one of the people on the list, who's email is listed the same as mine. I tried politely explaining that I'm not Dawn So-and-So, you have the email wrong, so I thought I'd let you know so you could correct it and Dawn So-and-So won't miss out on anymore of your prayer lists. I still keep the emails, addressed to me as Dawn So-and-So. So, I just delete them.

Since you know the person, it's a little more tricky for you. Your options are really either to be polite but direct and tell him to stop, or just grit your teeth and keep deleting the emails. No matter how nice you are about it, you might hurt his feelings, so you'll have to decide how irritated you are by this, and if it's worth that risk. That's a yucky situation to be in; I feel for you.

Wow, well, you're right, it's yucky. I wouldn't mind telling him to stop it so much, but I will have to see him again and feign being excited to play music with him - which is why i want to tell him gently, "hey bub, i don't care about you or your family...", type of thing. sometimes i rue the day email was invented...

15. Dude.....Thailand is the coolest place on the planet.
I was excited to email friends and family too.

I say you just blow it off and delete the emails until you longer have to play with him.

17. Honestly?
If you still gig together, it might be kind of awkward. He might think you don't like him (even if it's true.) Just do what I usually do. Roll you eyes, sigh and delete. Or, filter!
