1. Eugene Victor Debs
I have a friend who continues to write in EV Debs when he goes to vote.

I would have voted for Debs in every election his name appeared.

3. Being a guy, you may not be aware that more than half of the population
at that time would not have been able to vote because they had the wrong type of reproductive organs.

4. Why not? Suffrage is standard material in any school.
More than half the population, I think some states still had the property = right to vote thing going on, as well.

It standard teaching in high school, around here.

A I was talking about the fact that for the majority of this countries existence, you couldn't vote unless you owned land, thanks.

and the Why not? was to why the hell wouldn't he know.

8. Typical male response of not having a clue.
Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 11:27 PM by efhmc
Indeed many women owned land. Almost all of my female ancestors did own land starting in the 1800's, but they didn't have penises and therefore, they could not VOTE!!!! Incidentially in Texas before we became a part of the glorious union, Spanish law prevailed and women could own land. Then after joining the USA, that land was taken from them and could only be held by male relatives. (Thought about this response and it is rude and unnecessary. Sorry, no manners tonight. Not an excuse but will do better the next time.)

13. Decent.
They put me in a twilight... nitrous, and some IV stuff. Was conscious while they used the bonesaw on me, didn't care at all.

Got the dry socket from jogging 5 days later. But I was flying on vicodin for the pain and ibuprofen for the swelling, so it was all chill.

Thanks for remembering, :)

14. Seeing all the blood is my favorite part.
The funny part...the many years ago when I underwent the same procedure, I was awake through most of the operation. Fun eh?

I still remember the dentist weaving those stitches back and forth.

At least it wasn't a heart operation.

17. Yes, in some states they could
Edited on Wed Jul-30-03 08:20 AM by WoodrowFan
In some western states women could vote in a Presidential election before 1920. The 19th Amendment made it national. BTW, most property requirements were lONG gone by 1900!

State Date notes
Wyoming 1890 had as territory from 1869-1890
Utah 1890 had as territory in 1870 but revoked.
Colorado 1893
Idaho 1896
Washington 1910
California 1911
Oregon 1912
Kansas 1912
Arizona 1912

Other states had Women’s suffrage in such thing as School Board elections.

6. Bryan was also ahead of his time
his downfall was the Monkey Trial in 1925 where he argued that a man couldn't evolve from a chimp. Of course he never met George W. Bush.
