Other than iPod, can you recommend a quality mp3 player?
1G is enough for me. I can always rotate my song list.

I would also like to get away with spending less than $100.

Thanks much.

1. The best 1GB player on the market is the iPod nano.
It's only $129.

Sure you'll be spending a few bucks more, but the build quality, ease of use, and aesthetics offered by the iPod are unparalleled.

Trust me, don't look at any other garbage, iPod is the only choice right now!

2. Duly noted.
I would prefer an iPod (hard drive over flash drive), but it's a bottom-line decision. I may go with a Nano after all.

Thanks!

4. I was very disappointed in my Nano
They are fragile as hell.

I've read of significant numbers of Nano users who have had a wide range of problems.

I can't give the Nano a thumbs up at all from personal experience.

11. Thanks. I really liked it while it lasted.
Just wish it would have lasted more than a couple of months!

10. Nano's are fragile
No reason to go that direction - Apple screwed up, plain and simple

20. Yep fragile indeed
The article kind of proved my point

Now don't get me wrong - iPods are still head and shoulders above the competition. Personally - I'd reccomend getting the full blown iPod which has a lot more bang for the buck - for 100 bucks more you get 25 more gigs of space, a more durable player and and all around betted Mp3 player.

18. If you have Apple Care on it, Apple will just give you a new one
if you have a problem. One of my friends even ended up with a nicer iPod because the model she had was discontinued. Apple does take care of their products when there's a problem.

19. Better to just shell out the cash for a full on iPod
Nanos are fragile, but their full blown counterparts are not.

And it does cost more, but think about the drive size - 30GB...you'll never run out again.

22. I have the full-size iPod and you're right.
I've had it for a couple years. It's scratched up, but it's survived all the abuse that comes with being owned by me. I'm a cell phone killer.

I want a new iPod though, but only because mine's only 20GB and I have a little over 40GB of music, so I really need to upgrade to the 60GB at some point.

6. The Sandisk Sansa m240 (1 GB) is a great player
And you can probably score one for less than $80. Maybe even less than $60. They sell them just about everywhere.

Believe me, mine has been through all the trials of Egypt, and it still works great. It also picks up FM radio like you wouldn't believe. And it plays WMA (Windows audio) files, which take up half the space of MP3s and give the same sound quality.

There are a lot of Apple cultists around here who will try to steer you to their own altar, but if you're thinking of alternatives at all, please at least Google the Sandisk Sansa. You won't be disappointed.

16. I love my Rio, and I beat the hell out of it.
It's with me everyday at the gym, an hour each day. I've gone through 10 sets of headphones, but my Rio never missed a beat.

17. Thanks, gang.
After much soul-searching (and a trip to our local appliance store), we decided to save up and go with iPods. The flash players just have too little storage.

Again, thanks! :hi:

23. I have a Creative Zen 40 Gig

It has frozen up a few times, but all I had to do was press play again. Very easy to navigate and a great sound system...I can store up to 15,000 songs on it (currently I have about 4,000) ...

Some of the original software is junk and you need to download a patch to get your software to actually work. On some of the software, there is a single process that consumes all the RAM and the program won't run...you have to download a patch or driver or something and it works great after that.

A real good product with very minor flaws...Mine was purchased for $259
