Good Wednesday Morning, Crew!

:hi::donut:
Welcome to the Hump Day edition of the Early Morning Crew thread! :bounce: I'm sorry about missing yesterday, everybody. I bought a new router the day before and it just would NOT work. I spent two hours on the phone with the Tech Support people and not even they could help me make it work. And plus, I had no access to a computer yesterday. So, I missed the day. And I hated it! x(

Greekspeak left to go on a long cross country trip yesterday, so I have the house all to myself for the next two weeks! I'm kinda jealous of him though because he's going all the way up to New York City (which I've never been to), and then back down the east coast! :bounce: He rode back to Missouri with our friend yesterday and then this morning, he and his dad are leaving out for their cross country trip! :bounce: I'm going to miss him.

How have your last two days been? I hope work hasn't been too crazy for you! I was off, so no stress at ALL on my end!

So, are you ready to get this day started with me? Man, it feels good to be here again! :bounce: My day just wasn't the same yesterday. :grouphug: Time to rise and shine, my crew! :woohoo:

72. It works the first time
but any subsequent attempts to reallocate the array fail. It should work, and it does on AIX.

I just ramped up the initial allocation to comfortably hold all the data, and that seems to work... ;)

I guess nobody ever uses realloc() in MS Visual C++. They're probably always doing things the OO way and using new instead.

102. Yesterday it worked
Today it is not working
Windows is like that.

:D

cc is the traditional name for the C compiler on Unix systems. Every Unix vendor calls their C compiler something different, but they always point a symlink called "cc" to it so that the old command works.

vi is possibly the least user-friendly text editor in the world. I love it. :)

(Actually ed is even less user-friendly, but at least ed actually makes sense when you imagine operating the computer using a teleprinter console).

7. Good morning Clint
we were all missing you yesterday. Even though I decided to take a sick leave and stayed home. The night before I woke up at 4am, went to the bathroom, had to force myself to stay awake while .... and the second I lay in bed again I was wide awake for the next hour x(
So I pretty much slept all day yesterday, emailed with AirmensMom in between and today it is back to work. In a laundry.

108. No.
One time I got impatient and went over there. She was on the phone with someone important (yeah, more important than me!), and she had a call-back list as long as my arm. I was second on it. I know she gets swamped ... and we sure don't want a builder who's NOT busy! She's probably just still working on the contract. No point in bugging her. She knows it has to be done this week while harleydad is here to sign it. (I HOPE!) I just don't like not knowing what's happening.

The landlord is worse, for less reason. She called me about three weeks ago and said she wanted to come over "today" to take pictures of the floor for the owners. So I stayed home all day. Then she called the next day and said, "it'll be today or tomorrow". Never showed. I had to go somewhere, so I called and told her. She said, "Oh, I can't come until Friday or Monday. Definitely then." She still hasn't come, but I told her to call first in any case. She has the impression that she can let herself in any time she wants, with or without notifying us, even if we're not here. I haven't actually spoken to a lawyer about it, but it's my understanding that she has to call first and at least let us know ... unless it's an emergency, like the house is on fire or the water's leaking out of it. I wouldn't care if she did that, but I'm afraid she might let the kitties out accidentally. :scared: I HATE renting! x(

118. We looked it up and it says no here, too.
But we also know she told the maintenance man that he's allowed into any rental unit at any time, and he has a key to all of them. That's why we looked it up! But since it appears that they're both too busy (can't get him over here to fix the bathroom fan), I doubt they'll be showing up unannounced for a while. Still ... I sure wouldn't feel comfortable going away for a weekend without changing the locks or something. (I wonder what the rule is on that ... tenants changing the locks on a rental unit?)

166. You should work for the phone company.

See, what they did was send a bill in June for the whole month of June (they charge for service in advance). They told me not to pay it, since they would then end up owing me money. This month, they give a credit for the unused local, then a charge for 8 days of internet and long distance, add the negative and positive numbers together, get -$3 and some change, and then calculate it off of June's bill, which never should have been produced! How stupid is that? I've already called the FL public service commission ... which also doesn't work right b/c you have to have a FL address and phone number in order for the automated stuff to work. But at least I got to talk to a person and he hooked me up with the phone company's executive office. If that doesn't work, I'll have to file a complaint. Utilities are the WORST companies to work with. They know they have you by the short hairs and they don't give a crap if they get it right or not. (Most people wouldn't call the PSC.)

OK, I'm done ranting. Guess I should get showered and dressed and do all the normal stuff. Harleydad just left on the motorcycle to get it registered and get his TN license. The kitties all went back to bed. And here I am still in my jammies.

today. Work has been overwhelming and very stressful. There appears to be issues with my boss. Everyone keeps asking me questions, and I don't want to feel like a traitor so I just give ambiguous answers. I feel if they need to know something, they should go straight to him. Just hope that my job is not jeopardized by all of this.

I'm running late this morning, so I've gotta head out of here. You have a great day and be talking to you tomorrow.

:hi:
That is a damned shame you know it? Well, I got it all hooked up, and running...it was a Linksys wireless G router...installed the card in Greekspeaks laptop, and the connection was so slow it was stupid. Websites would take up to three minutes to pull up, we couldn't get into our Comcast e-mail and the signal was at a constant 20%. It was that way on my desktop too (which was just connected directly to the router, not wireless).

34. Hmmm
Might be the old MSjava runtime worm, which floods the network with packets. You might want to try the following

Start->Run

In the 'run' box type in

cmd

and press enter

A command prompt should appear.

Type in

jview

and press enter

You should get a message similar to

'jview' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

If you don't, it might be the MS java runtime bug.

Yeah, the recliner is great! Actually, the whole sofa reclines too (well, each of the 3 seats does). Harleydad got his own sized recliner, too, and it's bigger than mine. It's just WAY cool. Lumbar support and everything. It was made in Norway. :bounce: Our old backs need good furniture at this point. The only thing is that it doesn't exactly fit in this room right. We bought it to fit the room in the new house, of course. And the other nice thing is that the kitties don't like it ... must be the smell of the leather or something.

So what are your plans today? Going to try another router? We got a wireless router once that was absolute crap. Never did work wirelessly. But the one we have now is great. It's up in the bedroom on the other side of the house and I'm in the basement. We used to have to run ethernet cables all over our house before. x(

There was a guy here the other day ... a cat rescue worker who is trapping a feral tomcat for us ... and he gave harleydad some tips. He used to live up here and work in Sarasota, so he knows all about telecommuting. So far, a bunch of other worker bees have asked him to do things, he's done them, and they've sent thank-you notes to him (copied to his manager) saying how much they appreciated him taking care of it so fast! :loveya: :applause: He does seem to be very focused, but I don't know how he normally is at work. I DO know (manager types ... listen up!) that most people working from home tend to work harder because they're more sensitive to the fact that they're on company time. No visiting with co-workers, chatting around the coffee maker, etc. Just work.

Yes, I've heard that if you can't get at least 3 hours of sleep, it's best just to stay up. Have you been studying for a test or something?

49. Nah, it's not so bad this semester.
I have art class. We are just painting our final and the worst of it is done, the stenciling. Now all we gotta do is go back and do the painting. It's a group effort. There are some really good ones in the group I am in, so I am not too worried about it. I took a really long nap yesterday, so I shot my sleep schedule out of whack. I'll probably stay up, but I might nap for an hour or two before I go in. I'm not terribly sleepy now, but feeling a little laid back.

I don't think this one will be hard at all. I do have psychology stuff to do online, but I'm planning on making a day of it Friday and just catching the last 2 chapters up at once. Nitey night.

87. Good Morning Clint!
As you can tell you were very missed yesterday. Lots of speculation going around. See how popular you are? See how important you are? Quite a responsibility.

I'm running a little late this morning. Lingered too long in bed, and then I remembered it was garbage/recycle day, so I had to get my stuff out on the street! made it just in time.

Did you get your router working? Ah technology . . . can be a real pain sometimes.

Yes, I know everybody (including me) missed the crew thread yesterday. I'm sorry. No, I never did get the router to work, so I returned it yesterday to CompUSA. I think I might try the Netgear brand next to see how it does.
