I'm thinking bird flu? Or West Nile? Or maybe Monkey Pox?

Thoughts?

4. No way. Here in the Old Dominion we only have INDOOR
cats. We respect the songbirds way too much.

5. sounds like our house
There's about 4 cats who are allowed to prowl the neighborhood, and they've been killing birds left and right lately and leaving them in our yard. x(

7. You can call animal control to pick it up and they will test it
I did that when living in AZ and had dead birds appearing in my yard.

What kind of bird is it?

9. I think it is a fledgling from the boston ferns on my front porch.
Every year I put up two hanging plants on the porch and every year, birds nest in them. It's really pretty cute. I love showing the neighborhood litte ones the eggs and then the babies.

It's pretty little, so I think it just wasn't ready to fly.

Or it could have just died of old age.

11. It looks like a baby. I think it just wasn't ready to fly.
I get them in my porch plants every year. Quite enjoyable actually. They are so incredible cute when they are peeping away as they are being fed.

Of course, every time I leave through the front door of my house, mama and papa bird go berserk.

 Unseemly lock that was. You were right. The kid was an ass. You might have suggested career counseling would recommend a job where he doesn't have to deal with the public. :D

15. Maybe it crashed into your car window.

I was washing my car a few days ago and had the doors shut, with the passenger-side window open but the driver-side window shut. A little finch flew through the open passenger window and was couldn't find his way back out of the car. He panicked and bonked into the windshield a couple of times before I was able to open the driver-side door and he got out.

He also left me a little present.

In my driveway

Next to my van.

Its wings grasp
at the unknown.

Soon, the flies will come.

Listen.

(I stepped on it yesterday after my lovely encounter at the grocery store. Good thing I had shoes on. I usually go barefoot, bleccch)

31. We've had fledgling blue jays
that land on concrete when they come out of the nest and die.
There were 3 a few years back that the stray cats thought looked
mighty interesting. Mama blue jay was having a fit and attacked
our neighbor. I gathered them up and put them in a breeder box
on our back porch away from the cats. Mama found them and
continued to feed them. After a few days they were more ready
to fledge.

33. My friend had an owl sitting on a stump in her yard for days
She called the local nature center, where they take in hurt wild animals, and they said not to bother, because they could just about guarantee it had West Nile. It died shortly after.

I am the least hypochondriac person to the point of health recklessness, but I'm always over there getting the hell bitten out of me by the mosquitos from her yard and creek. I realize lots of us actually get it without knowing, but I've read too much about the rare cases of encephalitis that can ensue.

I have GOT to find a job that's not medical related......
