What, exactly, is a Federal Marshall??? |
|
I just discovered that an engaged couple is buying the 140 acres behind me. I met them when they were looking at the place (the real estate agent has done nothing in this transaction) and spent 2 hours showing them around the forests and fields and I really liked them. They gave me their number and, because I liked them, I passed it on to the current owner. Well, it's been sold and all the papers have been signed. The current/former owner told me that they're both Federal Marshalls. So, is that good or bad??? Seriously, I really liked them, otherwise I would never have passed their number on. Also, they figured out I was gay and they told the current/former owner that they couldn't care less and that they thought I would make a great neighbor. BUT...the whole "Federal Marshall" thing gave me pause.
Thank you,
Atlas

My first reaction is that you have nothing to worry about...
Federal Marshalls work, among other things, on the airplanes.......
You know, in case of highjacking attempts........
I'd be happy to have law-abiding folks as neighbors....
I really doubt that they will be any trouble for you...

There are good apples in every bunch. Side note: They sound like great people, and no matter what someone's political slant or occupation, I think on a human level, without discussion of politics or religion, we should be able to get along with anyone. Duckie

It's just such an odd situation - I hit it off with them and had a great time showing them around, not to mention that I was the "key" to them buying the place. Then....I find out they're Feds!!! I guess everyone is human, but I didn't exactly expect to have Homeland Security for a neighbor!

12. Federal Marshalls are police; except their jurisdiction is everywhere |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 07:00 PM by Rabrrrrrr
within the United States, unlike local and state police that have smaller areas of jurisdiction. They can transport criminals across county and state lines, etc., and arrest anyone anywhere within US borders. I'm not sure if that applies to territories, though.
My uncle was a Federal Marshall. He once went from Wisconsin to down south somewhere to pick up a criminal to take back to Wisconsin. The sherriff in the county the criminal was in didn't want to let me uncle have the prisoner, saying "You don't have any jurisdiction here; you're from Wisconsin".
My uncle just said to him, "I'm a Federal Marshall. I have jurisdiction EVERYWHERE."
And he got the prisoner. :-)
